There's been a lot of talk about the NFL going international... Do you think the NFL will give up home games in order to reach out to a larger base? How do you think this will impact the NFL?

That will happen, it is already in the works, with definate plans in Europe and elsewhere to tap into the huge global market.

This is one of the reasons the owners want an 18 game season. That gives two more games per year team that can be played in Mexico, England, Germnany, Spain, Japan, China etc

It will mean a much wider fan base and more money from TV etc. This will mean both players and fans get more money.

Yeah, good point! I'm kinda split on the idea.

As you know, there are only 16 games during a 17 week season. Typically, a team plays 2 home games in the pre-season, and 8 home games in the regular season. It's nothing like the NBA where 82 games are played by each team and half of those are home games. Taking away one home game from fans is a big deal. Yet, many believe that giving the brand an international presence will actually help provide a better experience for the fans and help local economies in the long run.

The 18 game season is almost certain, the Owners are already committed to it (at the expense of two preseason games).

Much of the CBA delay is that the players aren't willing to consider it, but it will happen.

The owners are unhappy with the current deal (considering the need to build stadiums etc) and they have control of the game. There is no way both sides can get what they want with the current 16 game season.

I would expect rosters will increase from 53 players to 60 player to accommodate the longer season.

There is also definate commitment to expanding overseas to some degree. By adding an international element, you can grow your entire market base. Increasing the potential market by literally millions of people will have a big flow on effect with substantially increased TV rights, but there will be increased merchandise etc.

Basically the intent is to make the NFL a genuine world market, just look at Baseball and Basketball.
