With the 19th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Giants select...

Post  DFlo on Thu Mar 10, 2011 12:48 pm

Hey guys,

I'm running an interactive mock draft with the fan forums of all NFL teams where the fans get to vote and make the pick for their respective team.

So far the fans have voted:
Carolina - Fairley
Denver - Dareus
Buffalo - Newton
Cincinnati - Green
Arizona - Bowers
Cleveland - Peterson
San Francisco - Von Miller
Tennessee - Blaine Gabbert
Cowboys - Prince Amukamara
Redskins - Julio Jones
Texans - Robert Quinn
Vikings - Ryan Mallett
Lions - Tyron Smith
Rams - Aldon Smith
Dolphins - Mark Ingram
Jaguars - Christian Ponder
Patriots - JJ Watt
Chargers - Cameron Jordan
Giants - ???

Also, if you write a short 3-sentence description as to why this player should be drafted in this thread, I will pick out the best write-up and post it in the mock draft section along with your name!

***Also for mods, I hope you don't see this as spam. I am just trying to get the right fans to vote for their team, so we get the right mock draft. If you have any problems, please let me know.

Honestly I don't like the choices and when I saw Mallet and Ponder that early in the first I came to the conclusion I don't want to be involved in this mock.

My take with this mock it comes down to three players.

1. DE Ryan Kerrigan, Purdue
The best player available and an ideal fit at 4-3 DE. Sure the Gmen are loaded at DE, but Kiwanuka's future with the Giants is rocky and Osi comes off contract after the 2012 season. This move would be similar to when the Giants drafted Kiwanuka despite having Strahan, Osi and Tuck.

2. OT Anthony Castonzo, Boston College
The best lineman still available. This allows Diehl to move inside full-time and Seubert to Center or versatile backup. Remember McKenzie will be off contract after the season. All of the primary starters last year are over 30, the Giants need to get younger and healthier on the offensive line as a priority. Castonzo is a stud tackle who can play either side and the Gmen love BC linemen.

3. C Mike Pouncey, Florida
A case can be made that Center is our biggest need. With his injury recovery and age, O'Hara can't be relied on to be a consistent starter. Pouncey is the big physical guy we ideally need inside, but we can also get decent center help in later rounds, particularly if Seubert moves over to Center.

I like each of those 3 as prospects but I feel with our need greater at other positions we shouldn't be drafting a DE in the 1st.

I like Castonzo a lot but i think he'll start at LG to begin his career then eventually move out to LT. At the senior bowl more coaches requested him to play LG.

I also like Gabe Carimi at the tackle position and ultimately feel he ends up the best tackle outta this draft but its at RT.

Mike Pouncey makes the most sense at this point. He'll play Center for us. Needs a little more work out of the shotgun but can be a probowl center. He fits an immediate need.
