My Giants Mock Draft Empty My Giants Mock Draft

Post  56 Crazed Dogs Sat Apr 16, 2011 3:03 pm

Ok here is my first rough copy attempt at a Giants mock draft.

Round 1- pick 19
RB, Mark Ingram - Alabama
Ingram can do it all out of the backfield and there is a good chance he will be available when the Giants pick. I don't expect Bradshaw to be back because he will get paid better elsewhere.

Round 2- pick 52
OL, Marcus Cannon - TCU
Cannon is a big offensive lineman who won't be pushed around easily. I think he'll have a shot at either right tackle or guard in the pros. Depending on where the Giants could use him most.

Round 3- pick 83
ILB, Kelvin Sheppard - LSU
Sheppard has the tools and leadership to be a true ILB. He has played in all spots at LBer but probably would be best on the inside.

Round 4- pick 117
S, Robert Sands - West Virginia
Sands is tall for a safety at 6'4 217. However, he is also very athletic for such a tall frame and can play run or pass very well. Sands could be used up in the box much like Deon Grant was used for the Giants last season. Although, he can drop back and cover as well.

Round 6- pick 185
LB, Casey Mathews - Oregon
Mathews has a good game and I think he has the will and drive to get better as time goes on. A 6th rd pick might be too late here but perhaps the Giants make a trade up to the 5th if he's still available.

Round 6- pick 198
CB, Shareece Wright - USC
Wright has a ton of athleticism but is a bit raw. He can corner blitz and also play the run and pass well. The biggest downfall on Wright may be that he doesn't have the smarts to start in the nfl right away. He also has bad hands but is at many times in the right place for the interception.

Round 6- pick 202
WR, DeAndre Brown - Southern Miss.
Brown has a big frame at 6'6 233. His production has dropped since his freshman year but he is going to be in a lot of highlight reels one day. He can move well for a big receiver. Not afraid to go over the middle or go get the long ball. He's much more of a complete receiver than the Giants are hoping to get of Ramses Barden.

Round 7- pick 221
C, Zane Taylor - Utah
Taylor likely provides the best value with the Giants last pick. Good quickness, good strength were both proved at the combine and his pro day. A very intelligent and durable player.

Well there it is. I wasn't able to put as much time and effort into my mock this year but I think this could be a fairly solid draft.
What do you think good, bad, or indifferent?

I'll add a few notes here:

- I think the Giants will re-sign Kevin Boss.
There's not a lot of TE talent in the later rounds of the draft, hence the reason I opted out of drafting one. Maybe sign an URFA.

- I could see the Giants signing a free agent LB'er like Thomas Howard. His speed would add some much needed help to their defense and he shouldn't break the bank.

I like it Todd. You went big thats for sure. I agree with you on the TE comment. Its looking like Boss may be the best option for us. Howard has bombed in Oakland after a decent start so maybe a fresh start is whats needed for him.

Ingram at 19 great pick. Cannon takes care of a few potential holes especially if Andrews goes. Sheppard is probably better off in a 3-4 but I could live with that pick if we get speed on the outside like Howard. I don't really like tall safety's. Pat Watkins kinda ruined that idea for me but you never know. I like the idea of going safety at that point. I think Casey Mathews will be drafted somewhere in rounds 3 or 4 though. If he's there in the 5th I hope we make the trade up. And I like the way you closed the draft by position.

Good job.

A nice job, I could live with that

I think it is down to Ingram, Pouncey and Castonzo at 19. If Ingram is there I think he could be the guy.

one concern is DT if Cofield later leaves, but we have two capable starters in Canty and Joseph, not much of a rotation though.

There are quite a few WRs that I like, but it is hard to justify taking one with our depth; perhaps the guy you have is a good option.

I agree Pete. There wouldn't be a big rotation there if Cofield leaves and we don't draft one.
Although, I think with our abundance of DE's (and possibly Kiwanuka) we'll be ok.

Vin, your probably right about Mathews, I don't think he'll last that long either but you never know. There always seems to be a guy who slip through, but being Clay's little bro, I doubt it lol.
