Re: List of Free Agents
great list, thanks for posting
it doesn't include the players with 4-5 accrued seasons, who could be either RFAs or UFAs depending on whether the league operates under the 2010 (uncapped) or previous rules.

It says at the top that the list is based on the assumption that the league would operate under the same rules as 2010.
Right now that seems like the most likely as time is running out.

You are probably right, it means teams can get up and running quickly and have any new CBA come into play next year.
Is there a similar list for RFAs?

Re: List of Free Agents
Not yet, I'm sure he'll have one shortly. I'll keep my eye out for it. He also says in another story that this could be the worst Free Agency ever. Makes me think the possibility of trades for guys like Cofield seem much more likely.
I ran through the list quickly and only a few names stood out.
David Baas C/G
Robert Gallery G/T
Matt Roth DE
Leroy Hill OLB
Thomas Davis OLB
Barett Ruud MLB
Kevin Burnett LB
A few others off the list seem like ok options, this was just a quick run down.

Re: List of Free Agents
Giants need to sign punter, Ben Graham from the Cardinals. Graham has experience playing with the Jets for a few years so he's an outdoor stadium kicker also.
He's had a steady career.
2010
Graham
94 punts
35 returned for 458 yds
0 touchdowns returned
Dodge
72 punts
36 returned for 535 yards.
2 touchdowns returned.
If the Giants are really dedicated to special teams they'll sign a new punter and Graham is available.

Re: List of Free Agents
Any 3, 4 and 5 year players who were not tendered would also be unrestricted free agents.
I haven't found a list, but of the 14 players who were eligible to be RFAs under the 2010 rules, NYG tendered 6 players:
Bradshaw, Cofield, Boss, Kiwanuka and Tollefson all got second round tenders.
NYG has 8 year 3-5 players who are UFAs

Re: List of Free Agents
Assuming Deon Grant isn't resigned, how about Philly SS Quintin Mikell?

I wouldn't worry about it.Big_Pete wrote:Assuming Deon Grant isn't resigned, how about Philly SS Quintin Mikell?
The Giants still have plenty of DBs to fill in, and a few new ones that need to get some snaps.

Interesting point of view
we currently likely have
Webster, Thomas, Amukamara, Ross, B Johnson at CB
Rolle, Phillips, Sash, Coe at safety
So who do you see as our starting third safety in 3 safety sets? at the moment it looks like Thomas or Prince at FS with Rolle or Phillips stepping up.
Should Rolle or Phillips get hurt (touch wood), are you happy with Sash starting at safety?

Re: List of Free Agents
When the Giants have three safeties in. Rolle or Phillips have ability to play up to the line or deep. Sash will get a legit chance as well.
Ross, can play as deep safety. Prince could get a shot here.
I see the Giants also playing more downs with three traditional linebackers.

Really?
That leaves no depth should Phillips, Rolle or Sash get hurt.
Last year we used more three safety sets due to poor LB play.
We likely lose Bulluck, Blackburn and Wilkison at this point likely replacing them with Tracy, Jones and Williams and you think our LB group is substantially better? Presumably Sintim is the 3rd incumbent starter, but he couldn't earn a spot when pretty much handed the SLB job last offseason.
If we add a quality veteran, that is a different story, but at the moment I don't see a huge upgrade, sure there is potential, but that has been the case with our LBs for a while.

Re: List of Free Agents
Don't get me wrong, safety or linebacker could be upgraded but I am more content going into the season with our cast of DB's as opposed to our linebackers.
We still need an upgrade at linebacker and I have faith if we address that correctly there is little need for an "in the box" safety type.
As you said Pete, Grant was on the field because of our LBer play. Last year we took a chance with Bulluck and that didn't work out. We will add another vet this season that hopefully has 3 down capability.

Re: List of Free Agents
I agree Todd. Im not as worried about the DBs as I am going back into this season with the same LBs. Prince played S as a junior so if he needs to pull a Malcom Jenkins for a year and play safety on occasion I wouldnt mind it.

I think we need at least one veteran LB, that is our biggest need imho.
I do think we need at least solid safety as well. That could be Grant, it also could be someone else, it doesn't have to be a starter, it could be a second tier guy.
