Could Goff play WLB?
I have just been thinking...
If we got a quality MLB such as Poslunzy, could Goff play WLB?
I am just thinking because Kawika Mitchell was an ILB before we brought him here to play WLB and which he continued to play in Fewell's system at Buffalo with success.
Goff has good speed and range plus decent athleticism and instincts
If he could, then Boley and Sintim could split time at SLB.

Re: Could Goff play WLB?
I've never seen anything from Goff to consider him as a speed or overly athletic LBer. He plays a little too stiff for the outside.
More of a traditional short yardage run defender imo.
Goff might be able to hold the weakside position for a few plays if need be, but i wouldn't keep him there full time. The Giants would need a speed guy there who is a threat to blitz the QB from time to time.

Re: Could Goff play WLB?
Goff at his best is a two down run stuffer. The main reason Mitchell worked here was because we ran a defense that basically had two Mike backers. Goff would be best served as the first backer off the bench much like Blackburn has been for us.

I agree, I just put it out there to see what anyone thought
I could also see Goff playing a similar role to Brandon Short.
I am curious because Goff is currently our best or second best (depending on your take on Boley) LB, I do think we need a stud MLB, preferably Tulloch or Poslunzsy.

The other thing to consider is that Goff becomes a free agent after this season. I could easily see him leaving, particularly if we do bring on a quality MLB.
I could see a lot of 3-4 teams being very interested.

Actually if we got a stud MLB in free agency, I would be quite open to trading Goff.

I wouldn't trade him this year though. It will be good to have guys around that know the system due to the late start.Big_Pete wrote:Actually if we got a stud MLB in free agency, I would be quite open to trading Goff.

I would be ok if we got a decent player at a need position. Not saying I would actively shop Goff, but I would be open to trade offers.

Goff doesn't have much value. There are plenty of backers in the league just like him.
