OL in Free Agency
OL are getting PAID this year. Wow. There are bidding wars going on for players you wouldn't even expect. Khalif Barnes has 4 teams after him. Robert Gallery (who I do like) has the Seahawks and Bengals in a bidding war and Doug Free is having monster numbers thrown at him from Dallas and Tampa. Not to mention the other lineman who have already agreed to deals, like Clary, Clabo, and Yanda to remain with their teams.
This is a big year to be and offensive lineman. Plenty of good ones still out there.

Re: OL in Free Agency
This is how I could see it panning out
this is how we currently stand
OT - McKenzie, Beatty, Brewer, King
OG - Snee, Diehl, Boothe, Petrus, Meredith
OC - Koets
I could see Snee sliding over to center, here is why.
So the guy I currently expect to see signed (with some of the money saved from Andrews) is RG Harvey Dahl (Falcons), and I think he could be reasonably priced. But there are lots of other good options at guard.
So my take on a possible Oline would be something like

- The Center makes all the line calls and has a key leadership role, it would be tough to bring in a new person particularly with a shortened offseason.
- We play lots more 3-4 fronts (incluing two division foes), ideally we need more physicality to anchor our line.
- 3. McKenzie is in his last season, so a shake up of the line is going to happen anyways.
- I believe the plan was to keep Shawn Andrews and plug him in at RG, which would likely have less pressure on his back, we did try to keep him.
- The FA pickings at C and T are thin, but there is good players available at Guard and Guards are cheaper than OTs.

Re: OL in Free Agency
For shits and giggles lets say Snee moves to center. You have a valid point with making an experienced player within and familar with our offense making the line calls. Although with so limited time I hate to see our OL continuity completely destroyed.
Potential Guards:
Tier 1:
Carl Nicks
Davin Joseph
Harvey Dahl
Robert Gallery
Tier 2:
Justin Blalock
Chris Chester G/C
David Baas G/C
Samson Satele G/C
Tier 3:
Mike Brisiel
Evan Mathis
Darren Colledge
Of the group I'd prefer a guy who can play Center and Guard. Chester, Baas, and Satele would fit nicely.
Brisiel and Mathis are two underrated players.
I'm really not crazy about dumping huge amounts of money into a Guard so I'd stay clear of the tier 1 players. Even though I would like to see Gallery as a Giant.

It never hurts to look at ideas, then you have an idea of how viable it is. Thats a nice list.
Good point on the tiers, maybe someone like Blalock is an option (who is also a little younger).
Id like to see one of the tier one guys, but that would depend on just how much.
College is a curious option, but his best spot is LG imho.
Like I said earlier, Andrews would be an ideal fit if the price was right.
I could see us going with someone like Dahl, I could really see him shaking loose with Atlanta having three of their starters hittinh the open market.
Lets not forget Reese and the front office are happy to pay for what he considers quality linemen (eg: Snee, McKenzie)

Re: OL in Free Agency
Hey guys new member here,
I honestly don't think we need any signings on the offensive line unless its a pro bowler and since there are none we shouldn't waste cap on an average player.
I like the youth movement on the line, we should brink back Seubert on a smaller contract because he has experience. We have a lot of talent on the line and we will be solid this year.
I'd rather we spend money on keeping Bradshaw and getting a linebacker and if possible give Osi an extension.

Thanks for your input uzi. Stick around you wont hear any Free Agent news any sooner than here. Like your theory but after losing 3 key offensive lineman don't you think its necessary to sign at least one FA OL?

Re: OL in Free Agency
I would love for a new lineman to be brought in if they were a pro bowl caliber player, the last thing we need is average players taking up cap space.
My projected offensive line for next season is:
Beatty-Diehl-Koets/Seubert-Snee-Boothe
Boothe proved himself last season when he was thrown into a starting role and did well. We already have a lot of guys to rotate in and out, maybe 1 undrafted FA wouldn't hurt but no over payed guys.
And if we bring Plax back we can run a lot of 4 WR sets that would pull guys out of the box and make the job easier for the OL.

Re: OL in Free Agency
I agree with you on Boothe but you would want to release McKenzie after coming off a very good year?
Problem with your line you have no depth.
IMO a Free Agent signing is in the Cards. Potentially two.
I'm keeping my eye and ears on Olin Kruetz and Chris Spencer. Not exactly the guys I'd prefer but a few sources believe they are on our list. Another target, David Baas.

Welcome to the boards!!
We do have talent, but ideally I expect one free agent to be added. Alot of our depth is unproven, which is a little risky. Don't forget Jamon Meredith in the mix, he has definate ability as well, I really liked him out of college.
It is also worth noting that we don't have enough bodies yet on the oline for camp. sure the guys we have will get more reps, but we need a few more. It is interesting that we haven't targeted the interior oline in the draft or free agency. I had thought it was because we were going to run with O'Hara, Seubert and Koets. Now it is clear to me we will address this with a free agency and/or possibly sliding Snee over.
I think the main reasons for Seubert's departure is health not his contract.
I agree with you about a LB and would expect us to sign someone, it is just a case of who. There is a real youth movement here, which is great to see.
btw I would look at Webster's deal as well, his salary increases to $8m from $3.75m
I don't think extending Osi is realistic. He is going to want around $12.5 mil a year or so as the market dictates which was set by Charles Johnson (who is nowhere near the pass rusher Osi is)
I think Reese was prepared for a modest pay rise, but that kind of money is way out and Osi knows it. He also knows he will get it from another team.
I don't begrudge Osi, after all he has 3-4 years left in in his career and in two years he won't get the same kind of money. So I do understand his point. Compare what $16m over 4 years versus $50m (which is market value for a top DE).
The only real resolution is a trade, but that will only happen if we get the kind of deal which we think is fair for a player of Osi's value. Thats going to be at least a quality player or the second and fourth picks we asked for Shockey, but we would probably want more.
My money is on the Pats, they have 2 x 1st and 2 x 2nd picks next year and need a pass rushing OLB, Belichek makes deals and recently cut one of the OLBs

I agree with Uzi. Seubert has a chance at making it back and quite honestly, I think Andrews does too. How they hold up is another thing though.

Heard this late last night, now its confirmed. It came down to those three. Baas was #1 on our list.

I told you I had "sources" that hinted to Baas. As I said yesterday, the only one with a real chance back is Andrews.
Although I noticed Stacey Andrews may be getting his walking papers from Seattle so the brothers could be looking to pair up again.
