What should we do with Osi
Poll - what should we do with Osi
So here it is
Osi is going to hold out, and it certainly looking like things could get ugly
what do you think we should do? and why?

Play hard ball with him.
These dopes know what it means at the time to sign an early contract. They also know what it's like for the organization to not honor one.
Trade him if it weighs heavily in the Giants favor.

I voted trade because watching how the market is going there is only one true stud at DE left and thats Edwards. Otherwise teams are bargain shopping. I think we get a fairly good offer for him. Lets bring Kiwi back.

I voted the same
Osi wants and probably deserves a contract in the vicinity of Charles Johnson, but there is no way it happens here.
Vin is right, there isn't much left in free agency, particularly as a 3-4 OLB options, Osi's value is right up there.
make the deal and keep kiwi

Re: Poll - what should we do with Osi
I love Osi so I voted to pay him. The man deserves his money and this will be his last chance to cash in. I prefer keeping him because for the last few years the Giants have always had 3 stud DE and it allowed us to do some creative pass rushes.
That said there is a certain price at which we have to say no. If Osi goes over that then I'm afraid we'll have to trade him and bring back Kiwanuka.
I just hope we trade him to an AFC team.

With Kiwi resigning we have a major advantage now.
Honestly, after seeing how the Eagles ripped the Cardinals off, I'm hoping to see us do the same to a team with Osi.

Rumors swirling around talks between Atlanta and the Giants for Osi.

What does Atlanta have to give? They gave up so many picks to get Julio Jones.

It would be a player
makes sense for atlanta though.
how about DT Peria Jerry and a 2012 2nd?
other guys who could be options include Sean Weatherspoon and William Moore
This would be move aimed at taking down the Saints and ther potent passing game.

Re: Poll - what should we do with Osi
Thinking about it, they resigned Nicholas and have Lofton
maybe Weatherspoon is expendable - think about it they need the stud pass rusher and have no picks but can get a good LB in free agency if they need one (though they seem pretty stocked)
Peria Jerry hasn't quite emerged, but has ability
How does this sound:
Osi Umenyiora for LB Sean Weatherspoon and DT Peria Jerry

With Charles Johnson, Jason Babin, Mattias Kiwanuka now all signed, Osi's value has gone right up.
If you want an elite pass rusher (and many teams do) then Osi is by far your best option.

Looks like the Ravens are very interested as well

Both teams have some pieces to offer. I'm dreaming Ngata for Osi and Webster. . . Just let me dream.

That isn't as silly as it sounds Vin.
I could actually see that as a possibility. Though it is unlike Reese to make a deal like that.
Adding Webster and Osi to that defense and it gets VERY scary.
Suggs and Osi coming at you with Sergio Kindle rotating in (if he is healthy)
They have guys who can do well at DE and have Cody at NT. hmm
Remember they have to beat the Steelers to get to the big game, as well as offenses like San Diego, Indianapolis, and New England all with very prolific passing games. Probably should add Houston if they get a Defense

Re: Poll - what should we do with Osi
I like Weatherspoon from Atlanta but them not having any 1st or 2nd round picks makes striking a deal really difficult. Maybe we can throw in CWeb and get some other player.

It just means that for Osi to got to the Falcons it has to be a player for player deal.
Thats probably better for us anyways, particularly if we can get help at need postions with guys on rookie or cheap deals.

Re: Poll - what should we do with Osi
Take the Falcons out of it they just signed Ray Edwards. Its now down to the Ravens and Patriots, lets see if another team gets interested now that Osi is clearly the best DE available.

Re: Poll - what should we do with Osi
The Ravens and Pats don't have anything that really catches my eyes, a trade with either of them will probably involve multiple draft picks.

The Giants have all the leverage with the new CBA. He can't afford to hold out at 30K per day and the loss of an accrued season after one month.Someone was right when they said play hardball and trade him if(if) they get a good offer.

Seriously?
why can't he afford 30k a day? he probably has some money stashed, remember he was one of the protaganists in the Brady case.
Lets be honest he is scheduled to get around 6 mil over 2 seasons at NYG, he his holding out because he is very likely to get around a 5 year $65 mil deal with probably $25 mil guaranteed.
Do the sums, what would you do in the same situation? I have no gripe against Osi, he had legit reasons, as do the Giants. The only solution I can see is a trade. Otherwise this will get ugly
Osi could just retire as he has threatened to do.
Also this much locker room disruption could be a distraction close to the season. The coaches also need to make plans based on what players we will have.

Giants DE Umenyiora ending holdout after 1 day
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora has ended his holdout after a day and reported to the New York Giants.
Umenyiora reported to training camp Saturday afternoon after missing the opening day of training camp at the team's headquarters.
The 29-year-old failed to report Friday. He said during the summer that he was unhappy with the team because general manager Jerry Reese failed to live up to a promise to renegotiate his contact after last season.
"I'll be there today," Umenyiora said in a email to The Associated Press around 3:20 p.m. Saturday.
Neither Umenyiora nor Reese was immediately available for comment after the player reported around 4 p.m.
Umenyiora started all 16 games last season and led the league with 10 forced fumbles. His 11 1/2 sacks tied Justin Tuck for the team lead.
Tuck hinted earlier in the day that Umenyiora might return soon.
"I think he realizes this is a business and he's doing what's best for him. You can't blame him for that," Tuck said. "A lot of people have different opinions on how to handle the situation. You might not see eye-to-eye with how he handled it. He has to do what's best for him. That's all I tell him to do. My biggest concern is that he doesn't do something that's going to hurt Osi."
Umenyiora ripped Reese in an affidavit filed by players as part of an antitrust suit against the league during the recent lockout.
Tuck felt the comments would not be a problem.
"A couple years ago Michael Strahan was in a similar situation," Tuck said. "He might've had a little bit more (leverage) being a future Hall of Famer. You've got to understand, we just got out of a tremendous business deal with just being able to come out here and play this game again. It is a business.
"I think a lot of people get caught up in the loyalty to the game and things of that nature like the Giants in this situation. We're definitely loyal to the team. But, in Osi's situation, he feels as though he needs to do this."

Osi Umenyiora finally made it to Giants camp.
http://www.northjersey.com/sports/pro_sports/football/giants/Umenyiora_returns_to_camp.htmlBut the fractured relationship between the disgruntled defensive end and general manager Jerry Reese has only turned more volatile.
