Giants offer incentives to Osi, believe standoff will end

We know how the Osi Umenyiora standoff ends, one way or another. He’ll wind up playing for the Giants.
At least Giants owner John Mara thinks so. (And really what choice does Osi have?)
“Yes. I think it will be resolved and he’ll be a Giant this year,” Mara said via the Newark Star-Ledger. “It’s something we can work out. We’re already talking to his agent to do something incentive wise with his contract to make him happy.”
Osi’s side was less sunny.
“We appreciate John saying that and hope that will be the case,” his agent Tony Agnone said.
Umenyiora doesn’t have much leverage here, especially after the Giants stopped allowing him to seek a trade. ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter reports the Giants are offering an incentive for Umenyiora to get 13.5 sacks. He’s done that once in his career.
Agnone hopes that the Giants will take a year off the contract. (It’s currently through 2012.)
The fact that the Giants are bending slightly now is a strong sign this standoff is headed towards a resolution, even if it takes a while.

That is a nice situation, I think it will be resolved fairly soon.
JPP has certainly benefited from increased reps with the first team
There is a good chance Osi will get those 13.5 sacks

The Giants would be stupid to let him out of his contract after this season. They give away all their power if they do that. If thats what Agnone and Osi are waiting for they wont get it. Let Osi hold out or trade him. With that said Osi should take the incentives for this year and be happy to prove his worth.

ehh. He's going to play his best with or without incentives. It only hurts Osi's value to hold out or play poorly this season anyways.

Incentives mean he is motivated to achieve results, which is a big change from where he seems to be right now.
If he performs he gets his pay day

He has something to prove but 13.5 sacks? I don't think he is going to get that this year, lets keep in mind he is coming off knee surgery. This might just be the Giants getting him to stop complaining.

Any way you look at it, Osi is going to play his best as if he were he was going into a new contract year... in which he isn't.
Worse case scenario. The Giants go through this same crap next year, but only have to deal with it for one more year.
It only hurts Osi as he grows older and puts up fewer numbers.
