Where each player is lining up at practice so far.

Strong Side
Mathias Kiwanuka
Clint Sintim
Kenny Ingram
Adrian Tracy

Middle
Jon Goff
Mark Herzlich
Greg Jones
Phil Dillard

Weak Side
Michael Boley
Jac Williams
Spencer Paysinger

*I wouldn't rule out adding another backer yet considering how late we added Bullock last year but this seems to be the unit we plan on going with.

*I mentioned in my Senior Bowl Review in the Senior Bowl Thread we had how I thought Herz can make the switch to MLB. See Todd, I told you Reese and Coughlin are taking my advice.

Herzlich was again impressive and from what he showed me I personally think he has the ability to make the switch to MLB in a few years but if he doesn't he'll be an excellent SLB. Solidified himself as a 2nd round pick IMO. A lot like Brian Urlacher and Chad Greenway. He'll be a great coverage backer.

Nice to see Kiwi working in there at SLB

other than that, pretty much what I expected

Of course this presumes that Osi is back.

adding Kiwi at SLB and suddenly our LB corp looks quite good

there is a ton of potential.

I hope we can sign Andre Carter as a 4th DE to allow Kiwi more time at SLB

My thing is this. If we want DE's playing LB so bad why don't we just switch to a 3-4 already?

OLB- Kiwi, Osi, JPP, Tollefson
MLB- Boley, Goff, Sintim, Herz
DE- Canty, Tuck, Austin, Benard
NT- Joseph, Watson

I'd prefer we keep the 4-3 but damn bring in real LBs already.

I agree

Personally I would like to see either a 4-3 tampa (like we have) or a 3-4

I totally agree on the LB, perhaps the Boss situation dragging on meant we missed out on good LBs.

Ideally I would rather both Kiwi and Sintim at DE

But can Osi and JPP play OLB? They would have to cover and I just don't see them as the types.

Plus in a 3-4 the DE are usually 280+, Osi and JPP might be too small for it.

Osi could definitely handle OLB. JPP I'm not sure. Neither at DE.

But with that said, I don't want a switch to the 3-4. I'm just making a point that we can get all our DE's on the field and at LB like the team likes. It drives me crazy. We need real LBs. Hopefully Herz regains his old form. He's our only hope at this point.

Its hard to say, Osi has knee and hip problems, I don't think he can handle OLB. JPP seems like a Tuck 2.0 to me so I know he can't play it.

And I know what you mean, this team has had mediocre linebackers for a long time, every chance we get to draft one we pass on it for another player. It drives me crazy every year.

I have high hopes for Herzlich, before his cancer he was a tank at BC, he seems to have the work ethic to get back there.

looks like today the depth chart looked like:

SLB

  1. Matthia Kiwanuka
  2. Clint Sintim
  3. Jacquain Williams

MLB

  1. Jon Goff
  2. Phillip Dillard
  3. Greg Jones

WLB

  1. Michael Boley
  2. Kenny Ingram
  3. Mark Herzlich

Not surprising the rookies will need time to learn everything.

I am surprised Tracy wasn't in the mix
