I like the Gabe Watson pick.
Canty and Joseph will start (not sure who is playing UT at the moment)
Watson will back up NT, Austin at UT

I'm gonna keep this updated so it makes it easier on us.
It seems Joseph is best suited for it to start but Austin could be getting a lot of playing time early on. We started Cofield as a rookie, Coughlin isn't afraid to do it.

That's true, Austin will get reps, but he is also quite raw, remember he sat out his senior year. I guess it will be similar to how we brought along JPP last year.Pizan wrote:It seems Joseph is best suited for it to start but Austin could be getting a lot of playing time early on. The Herman Johnson Era didn't last long
The Giants waived OL Herman Johnson today. Reason given is "left squad." #nyg

Some players are wasted talent. Herman Johnson is one of them.

Not yet, he needs to get into camp
looks like Ross will be tough for him to beat out for the #3, he has a lot of catching up to do.
I wonder what the hold up is

Adrian Clayborn got a full guaranteed contract by Tampa. Clayborn was picked 20th overall. Prince selected 19th overall feels he deserves the same. The Giants don't want to do that.

Re: Update on Giants Free Agency
Saw an interview with Coughlin he seemed really pissed Prince wasn't in camp, not the best way to start your NFL career.
Saw somewhere the only thing holding up a deal is some "last minute" dialogue.

Re: Update on Giants Free Agency
I am hoping we resign Boss and look at Matt Roth, Jason Snelling and Rocky McIntosh.
I think we need Roth as insurance for Kiwanuka's health and Osi's situation.
He could also be a factor at SLB having been a good OLB in the Browns 3-4

Re: Update on Giants Free Agency
Roth sets the edge as well as any 3-4 outside backer in the league. He's definitely big and strong enough to play DE. I've been a fan of him since his Iowa bar fighting days. The question is though does he want to play in a 4-3? He has already expressed he would prefer to play in a 3-4.
I'd like to let Boss walk. He's a perfect fit for our offense but I much rather see what Beckum can do then pay him the contract he's probably asking for. Beckum and Patrick could get the job done.
SIDE NOTE: Beckum is having a good start to camp.

Re: Update on Giants Free Agency
From what I read when Beckum was coming out of college is that he is a receiving TE and not much of a blocker.
I think Ben Patrick will start the season and I'm okay with that.

Re: Update on Giants Free Agency
Boss is visiting the Raiders
Beckum is more of a H-Back rather than a traditional TE
He is more of a Chris Cooley/Shannon Sharpe style of player (albeit not that good) rather than the traditional inline TE we are used to.
I was wondering about this when we drafted Beckum, I was thinking that perhaps wanted more of a H-back instead of the traditional fullback

Re: Update on Giants Free Agency
Beckum just adds another dimension to our offense. Something Boss can't offer. We had a nice play drawn up for Beckum last year. If you remember his TD against the Eagles and Lions were he set up as the down TE in our goaline package, he came up blocked then ran a drag across the goal line for his TDs. Can't wait to see what we have for him this year. Patrick was underutilized in Arizona. I can't wait to see what he does here. Patrick and Beckum could be a nice pair for us.

Giants deal with offensive lineman David Baas is a five-year, $27.5-million contract

Mike Garafolo/The Star-Ledger By Mike Garafolo/The Star-Ledger
The Giants recently went Baas fishing and caught themselves a keeper.
But it cost them.
(Wait, before I go any further, I have to come clean: I stole that first line from a regular reader and emailer of mine, so let me give Mort full credit for that one.)
The deal the team gave new offensive lineman (and likely starting center) David Baas last week was a doozy for a guy who wasn't even a full-time starter until 2009. Baas got a five-year, $27.5-million contract from the Giants, who badly needed help inside on their offensive line after having to cut Rich Seubert and Shaun O'Hara due to injuries. The deal includes $11.5 million guaranteed.
I'm guessing Baas' best negotiating tactic was to sit across the table from Jerry Reese and Kevin Abrams and just glare at them. I mean, seriously, that is one tough-looking dude.
Or he had his agent call. That, too.
A look at the deal for Baas, who turns 30 on Sept. 28:
SIGNING BONUS: $8.5 million
BASE SALARIES
2011: $1m (guaranteed)
2012: $3m ($2m guaranteed)
2013: $4.25m
2014: $4.75m
2015: $5m
WORKOUT BONUSES: $250,000 each year from 2012-15
Quick math shows that works out to these salary-cap numbers:
2011: $2.7m
2012: $4.95m
2013: $6.2m
2014: $6.7m
2015: $6.95m
Wow, 2015. We're already planning for that year. I wonder how many Hoverboards Baas will be able to buy...

3:26 p.m. UPDATE One more deal for you: QB David Carr signed a one-year, $810,000 contract with a $50,000 signing bonus.

I just realised we haven't resigned Dave Tollefson despite giving him a 2nd round tender in March
