We should trade for a TE
Boss leaving combined with Patrick's sudden retirement has caught the Giants out at TE.
I think we should trade for a TE
The most obvious option is with Seattle who just signed Zach Miller, but also have John Carlson, Anthony McCoy and Dominique Byrd (among others)
John Carlson seems to be the most available in the final year of his rookie deal (his salary is $620,500). I would imagine he would be available for a 3rd or 4th round pick.
Any thoughts?

I'm warming up to the idea of trading Osi for Carlson and a 2nd.
Jerry Reese needs to make this deal happen now.

I still have high hopes for Beckum. I think he can get the job done and I like Bear. I say we go with what we have until roster cuts. I think we'll do the same with CB.
We did sign Dan Coats but he's more of a camp body IMO.

I really like Pascoe's potential as an inline TE, Beckum should be good, but we need to use him as a H-Back

Re: We should trade for a TE
Beckum was the strongest tight end at the combine. If only he could translate that strength along with blocking technique he could be more useful than many realize.
If anybody can coach up a young TE with potential, it's Mike Pope.
I like Bear Pascoe also. The key will be too keep both bodies healthy by the time games begin.

Re: We should trade for a TE
I don't think Beckum will ever be a top shelf inline TE, but he certainly can be an exceptional H-Back.
Pascoe has a lot of ability, don't be surprised if he makes us forget Boss very quickly.
We still need more TE depth, but I think it will come from other teams cuts. Ballard is ok as a 3rd TE if need be.

Beckum has the tools to make it as a TE not just an H-Back. He needs better technique blocking defensive ends but while blocking on the move he's been very good.
I know I said this before but I think Beckum could be our Dallas Clark although probably not as good. Clark is no longer an H-Back, he plays TE and is actually one of the better blockers in the league. Beckum has that ability and willingness Clark has. This is a guy who is still developing and good news for us he's working with the best TE's coach in the league who turned both Jeremy Shockey and Kevin Boss into exceptional blockers.
Guys like Beckum are hard to find, blocking TEs or "inline" blockers are a dime a dozen.
SIDE NOTE:
Carlson is one of the worst blocking TEs in the league.

How about a guy like Mike Mathews?
Remember he played with the Giants for two years and was an effective blocker. He was used in two tight end sets with Boss after Shockey got injured the superbowl year.

Last I heard of Matthews is he ate him self out of the NFL and is now in the UFL.
I'd like to think Bear is an upgraded version of him.

I actually think Pascoe could be better than Boss
As far as Matthews, we don't need him, this Ballard kid looks to be a better option.

haha. maybe true but I'd like to think he was still in football shape enough to be a decent enough blocker.Pizan wrote:Last I heard of Matthews is he ate him self out of the NFL and is now in the UFL.

I think the Giants liked him and he has enough experience to beat out our third tight end.

Has Reggie Kelly signed with anyone? Not a great receiver but when it comes to blocking TE's, few are better.
