Some likes and dislikes after re-watching the game.

D-Line
Pierre-Paul. The real deal. He had some nice moves that gave some offensive lineman a surprise. Looked much more than just a one dimensional pass rusher.

Linval Joseph adds a nice push to this offensive. He took on two blockers much of the time and still wasn't moved backwards.

Austin looked good for a rookie not playing his senior year. His role might be limited but he certainly looks the part.

Bernard. Nothing new to add from what I've seen last season.

Gabe Watson. Looked good playing alongside Austin. Two big space eaters that could help in goal line packages. It's worth noting that Watson moved much better than I expected for such a big fella. He even chased plays down when they went away from him.

Tollefson disappointed. Looked slow, got washed out of many plays.
On the flipside, A guy like Trattou I think could add more upside. But Tollefson likely still wins that last DE spot.

WR's
Hixon certainly earned the right to play the slot if the games started tomorrow. Looked faster this season and showed good hands and ran good routes.

Devin Thomas played well, especially with a broken finger. He's a keeper. Can play specials too.

Didn't see enough yet of the other back-up wr's to make a real opinion.

TE's
Can't complain, they all displayed good hands. Our best run after the catch guy will be Beckum when he gets the chance.
I liked Coats as a third TE if we keep that many.
Also good to see Pascoe playing some FB. He's a much more valuable player to this club than many realize.

FB
Hynoski looked good. I kept an eye on him nearly every play he was in. Didn't see him bulldoze anyone but he constantly found a guy to latch onto. He also didn't look like a clueless rookie.

QB's
If Eli went down tomorrow, I think the Giants can get good production out of Sage. He had good ball placement for working with the two's and three's.
Ryan Perriloux did ok but will likely earn his spot on the PS.

RB's
The third rb spot is still wide open. Didn't really see anyone separate themselves from the others.

O-Line
Baas needs a little more time to adjust but he should be ok.
Like the depth we have.
It's a little hard to judge the non starters as they are playing with a make-shift line but I thought Andrews did ok on the right side with Brewer on the left.

Glad we got Boothe back. He played the center position pretty decent.

Some players that didn't help themselves.
Aaron Ross whiffed on a lot of plays. Looked terrible actually.

Don't like seeing Tyler Sash in too much space. He made a couple good plays near the goal line but he'll get eaten alive if the coaches keep him out there covering tight ends one on one.

Phil Dillard just didn't look instinctive. He needs to wrap up and tackle and be more instinctive.

Special teams coverage was just plain terrible. I'll get carpel tunnel if I start listing off all the players who missed tackles.

On a good note. Matt Dodge did a nice job with directional punting and hang time.
Weatherford was ok but I'd give the edge to Dodge from this game.

And lastly. Kick-offs from the 40 really do ruin the excitement of the game. Basically, it just means a longer bathroom break.

Nice observations there Todd. I agree with most of it.

Herz and Jones seem like frontrunners to land two spots at LB. Their versatility and ability to play specials is a huge plus.

Rosenfals plays like that again we'll have some good trade bait.

I'm not so sure our 3rd RB is on the roster right now.

Austin has one hell of a first step.

I think we need to bring Grant back. I don't want to give up on Sash. He did some good things and it was only his first game but I wouldn't feel good with him starting if Phillips got hurt.

Ross plays aggressive thats what I like about him but it didn't work for him and he made mistakes.

Agree on bringing Grant back.
Hate to say it but I haven't seen enough upside from Kenny Phillips short career to even feel quite comfortable.

Looks like we signed Derrick Martin S. Not a big fan of his so lets see how this goes. Better options are available with Grant and McGowan still free agents.

A few more things I noticed from the game.

Goff has very stiff hips and is not fluid at all. This isn't new news just the fact that someone said he's been working on it. Well he needs to work a little harder. Sash is gonna take blame for that Olsen pass up the middle but Goff was not were he needed to be. Watch when he loses position on Olsen. Its when he had to flip his hips. At this point he's still a huge liability against the pass.

Beatty looks like he might end up as a stud pass protector at LT. Beatty played well in the game but look what JPP did to Gross, and Beatty has held him in check all camp so far.

Good thought. Lets hope Beatty turns out to be the real deal.

After rewatching it. Kiwi looks very tentative before hitting. I'm not in favor of the switch to LB at all so I'm trying to watch him without a bias opinion but he's only good moving forward and honestly he didn't look good at all against the panthers even in that aspect.

Dillard had a really bad missed tackle against the Panthers 4th TE in the flat. I'd be shocked if he makes the team.

I know I said it before but Jones and Herzlich are definitely early favorites. They outshined the others in all aspects against the Panthers. I'd like to see Herz with first team reps in one of these preseason games.

agree on Kiwi. He looked hesitant at times and slow to the ball. But based on the rave reviews I keep hearing out of camp I have hopes he'll get better.
And yes, that was one of the lamest tackle attempts I've ever seen from a linebacker (Dillard) That will get you cut in a hurry.

One guy I'd like to see get some playing time is Jaquian Williams. Maybe he did and I just didn't notice though.
