Giants FA rumors/signings
Martellus Bennett visiting New York, Giants hope to sign him quickly
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 13, 2012, 5:00 PM
The New York Giants have a need at tight end, and they’re hoping to move quickly to fill that need by taking a player away from a division rival.
Martellus Bennett, a tight end who has played his entire four-year career with the Dallas Cowboys, is on his way to New York for a visit, and the Giants have identified him as their top target and hope to get him signed quickly, Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger reports.
As the No. 2 tight end behind Jason Witten, Bennett didn’t have a major impact in the Cowboys’ offense, catching 17 passes for 144 yards last season. But he’s a talented 6-foot-6 270-pounder who fills a major need for the Giants.
After the Giants lost two tight ends to torn ACLs in the Super Bowl and former Giants tight end Kevin Boss was sent packing by the Raiders, many NFL observers just assumed that Boss would find his way back to New York. But at the moment, Bennett is the tight end the Giants most want to sign.

Bennett would make a big target for Eli at the right price.
He has potential written all over him but was overshadowed by Whitten in his time at Dallas.
I wonder if the Raiders take a look at Bennett too since they recently released Boss?

Giants sign Martellus Bennett to one-year, $2.5 million deal
Posted by Evan Silva on March 14, 2012, 3:52 PM EDT
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Giants have come to terms with tight end Martellus Bennett, formerly of the division-rival Cowboys.
Per Schefter, the deal for one year and is worth $2.5 million.
Though he’s already been in the league for four seasons, Bennett is still only 25 years old. He learned to block as the No. 2 tight end in Dallas, and offers plenty of untapped potential as a pass catcher.
The Bennett signing bolsters a very weak position in New York. The Giants lost Travis Beckum and Jake Ballard to torn ACLs in Super Bowl XLVI.

Good to see the Giants signed Carr.
A little surprising that Bennett only signed a one year contract with us. Seems like his agent and him could have done much better than that.

I was surprised too. I think it shows confidence. He knows he'll have a good season and deserve a big contract. Giants asked him to prove it first and he said alright.
Also, the first reports were wrong. I guess its a 1 year 1.8m contract. I think its a steal. I'm really excited to see what he can do with Mike Pope coaching him.

I don't know diddly about Horton but hopefully the Giants see something there.
