Giants finish regular season 12-4

Post  56 Crazed Dogs on Mon Dec 29, 2008 9:23 am

Ok so the Giants finish 12-4 to make an end to the regular season.
Yesterdays loss against the vikings kinda stunk but since the giants were playing without there whole starting line-up for much of the second half so I won't hold the loss against them.

How do you guys feel about our chance in the play-offs?
I think we have a real shot at winning our next game, whether it be the Eagles, Falcons, or Cardinals. Any of those teams are beatable imo. We've beaten two of them so far this season.
Yes the eagles beat the tar out of the cowboys yesterday (which I loved watching btw) but I don't see that many things going right for the eagles again. That was just one of them games that the eagles were meant to win. Every team has one now and again. The Giants had one against Seattle this year, then the following week, the Browns had one against the Giants.

If the Giants can somehow make it to the championship game and we have to face the Panthers, this would be our toughest match-up and will be a great game to watch.

I think we have reasonable chances in the playoffs, I really think we can beat any team on any given day

I don't think Burress is that much of a factor, his absence will help our team chemistry long term (even if Burress does return, though I think that is unlikely)

I am concerned about our inability to get alot of sacks over the back half of the season, that is probably our biggest challenge in these playoffs

Also I am concerned that we are giving too many really big running plays up the middle; the guy who is likely most at fault here is Pierce.

from insidefootball.com

At the end of every season, there are always lessons to be learned, and I think in looking back over this yearís season, the big lesson is that itís not about whom you have on your team, itís about chemistry.

Letís take two of our favorite examples to prove the point. When the New York Jets acquired Brett Favre in a trade with Green Bay, it seemed like every time I turned on the TV or the radio or opened up the sports section, it was all about Favre. In fact, the media frenzy that accompanied Favre in those first few days after his arrival days was so ridiculous, that Iím surprised no one reported on what he ate for lunch.

And then there was Dallas, with its fantasy football approach to building a roster, collecting guys like Roy Williams from Detroit (if a team that bad is getting rid of
a guy, then what does that tell you ab out him?) or Pacman Jones from Tennessee. Who could forget the quotes coming out of Cowboys headquarters advising people to ďget the ring finger ready!Ē at the start of the season?

Well as I write this, both teams are losing, their respective playoff hopes hanging by a very thin thread. Why? Because itís not about one man (Favre) or about a handful of guys whose names sell jerseys to the fans.

Itís about team work, and for those NFL clubs who thought the Giants got lucky last year, perhaps this off-season when they start reshaping their rosters for the 2009 season, theyíll put less of an emphasis on grabbing big name players and look more toward that hard-to-attain intangible in which the Giants are the undisputed champions of achieving: the concept of team.

Itís a concept where guys named Manning contribute just as much as guys named Moss when it counts. Itís also a concept where you donít have guys trying about how many times they touch the ball (Dallas) but rather, theyíre the first ones to jump out onto the field to congratulate a teammate (see Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward after the latter recorded 1,000 yards for the season) after a major accomplishment.

There is no telling how far the Giants might go in the post season, but one thing is for certain. They got a lot farther than those teams who believe it is all about the individuals. For as long as Tom Coughlin is head coach of this team, there is no reason why these Giants cannot be successful every year so long as they cling to that teamwork concept.
