If Tyree can't go in training camp; he could be in trouble to make the roster...
With Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer and Steve Smith assured roster spots, we have Sinorice Moss, Mario Manningham, DJ Hall and Domenik Hixon legitimate contenders for what is likely three roster spots (with Moss and Manningham very likely to win roster spots); there is going to be a ton of competition. Whowever wins will have worked really hard.
Being on the sideline, it will be very hard for Tyree to catch up and compete against these guys; the PUP list may be his best option.
Another thought; with the excellent depth of talent/athleticism at safety, linebacker and cornerback, can we afford the luxury of keeping a WR based purely on special teams coverage alone?

Hmm.. not sure what to make of this but with a stacked wr position... like you said Pete, it may not be a bad thing for Tyree.

we have plenty of genuinely youngsters who will all be fighting hard to earn a roster spot, I think they are all going to impress in training camp.
Tyree is some way off being healthy, let alone in football shape. Even when healthy Tyree would have had a challenge, I can't see him making up the several months head start these guys will have.
After all how can you prove you are better value than several youngsters (all of whom are potential weapons in the passing game), who are impressing on the field in training camp, when you can barely run.

I think if Tyree misses the first 6 weeks, he could still come right in and be an effective gunner on specials imo. As long as he's fully healed.
As a receiver, missing that much time will definately hurt him.
We'll see by week 6 how good or bad our special teams are doing and Tyree will be activated based on that.
