I will go out on a limb with one guy who I think the Giants may sign in Free Agency and Why

LB Jon Vilma

Here is why

• he will be reasonably priced
  
• he needs a 4-3
  
• he has proven he can be healthy
  
• he is a proven playmaker
  
• he is familiar with NY
  
• the Giants have a truely special defense with most of the pieces in place; the Saints do not
  
• the Giants give him a much better chance at post season success
  

Vilma would be an ideal fit at WLB for us

It would mean that Kehl, Wilkinson and Clark are likely all competing for the starting SLB spot.

I think money wise we would be better off going after a guy like Michael Boley.
I have a feeling that Vilma would simply cost too much and may be better suited for a 3-4 defense.

Vilma shouldn't cost too much and has shown he is better suited to a 4-3 and not a 3-4 (that is why the Jets traded him)
He also has decent leadership skills which could be needed if the front office believe the end may be in sight for Pierce as a Giant (perhaps after 2009)


Boley is my #2 OLB; but I think he is a better fit at SLB for us

and Freddie Keiaho is my wildcard

with the cap room we have, getting Vilma and Boley wouldn't be out of the question.
