Giants Mock 24th March Empty Giants Mock 24th March

Post  Big_Pete Tue Mar 24, 2009 9:25 am

The Draft picks are now finalised, with that in mind I will review my mock draft to reflect my current thoughts (24th March)

Having looked at the possible needs from here; without major roster changes, this is something like what I would like to see for the Giants in the draft

I think the Giants are generally very happy with their depth at most positions

29 SLB Connor Barwin, Cincinnati [6-3 5/8, 256lbs, 4.50, 23 225lb reps]

Barwin is raw having only played one season at DE (athough he dominated), but Barwin has amazing athletic tools, great speed and great agility; he is a proven guy who can hold the point of attack, rush the passer and make plays in the backfield. He also will likely be great in coverage. More importantly Barwin has great work ethic, is a competitor and has a team focussed attitude. Barwin will take a little time to develop, but adds an immediate pass rush and coverage option on passing downs plus will be a demon special teamer. Seriously this guy could easily be the best OLB in this draft and is a steal here. He could also play WLB or DE in our 4-3 if needed.

45 OT William Beatty, Connecticut [6-6, 307lbs, 5.12, 27 225lb reps]

Beatty is a quality OT prospect with excellent feet, athleticism, good strength and good work ethic. Beatty will need time to develop, but will likely be our future LT, probably pushing Diehl to LG and Seubert to primary backup.

60 OC Eric Wood, Louisville [6-3 7/8, 310 lbs, 5.23, 30 225lb reps]

Wood is a very good center with good athleticism, strength and agility. He is intense, competive and a hard worker. Wood will be groomed behind O'Hara as his eventual replacement.

91 WR Ramsees Barden, Cal Poly [6-6 1/4, 229lbs, 4.51, 17 225lb reps]

Barden is a very big, fast WR with good hands and great agility and athletisicm with great production including proven ability to make plays downfield and score TD. He is a small school and will tale time to adjust but he adds the physical style of WR that complements our existing WRs very well. This may seem low, but there are a heck of alot of WRs in the frist two rounds (and plenty more depth).

100 S Chip Vaughn, Wake Forest [6-1 3/8, 221lbs, 4.51, 21 reps]

Vaughn is a big, fast, physical safety with decent ball skills and a knack for making big plays. Vaughn gives us a quality safety to develop for the future as well as a quality special teamer. Vaughn should be gone, but there are just too many good safeties and alot of teams needing premium positions

129 WLB Jason Williams, Western Michigan [6-1, 241, 4.59, 26 225lb reps]

Williams is a productive, small school LB with excellent size, speed and athleticism. This is a luxury pick, but continues to add speed athleticism at LB. Williams would likely add to the WLB depth behind Boley as well as another quality special teamer.

151 S Courtney Greene, Rutgers, [6-0 1/4, 215lbs, 4.54, 21 225lb reps]

Green is a physical safety with good speed, decent coverage and can play either safety. Greene adds safety depth (Johnson and Brown are of contract after 2009) and a quality special teamer.

164 OG Travis Bright, BYU [6-4 1/4, 321lbs, 5.24, 34 225lb reps]

Bright is a very strong, agile guard with great intangibles and work ethic. This is another luxury pick, but with Ruegamers depature he will have a good shot at winning a roster spot.

200 CB Joe Burnett, Central Florida [5-9 3/8, 192lbs, 4.57, 22 225lb reps]

Burnett is a physical, small school CB with very good ball skills and solid speed. Burnett is a very experienced returning kicks and punts. Burnett gives the Giants more CB depth but more importantly a quality return man; his value will be on special teams.

238 RB Aaron Brown, TCU [6-0 1/2, 200lbs, 4.49, 16 225lb reps]

Brown is a productive small school RB, with excellent, agility, athelticism, good speed and good hands. Brown is also a weapon in the return game averaging 31.9 yards per kickoff return during the 2008. Brown give the Giants more speed and explosion at RB and a good reciever out of the backfield plus a quality return man
