Assuming the Giants are not in the mix for Anquan Boldin or Braylon Edwards, what other players do you think could be trade options?

Insidefootball.com's Patricia Traina(Mar 27) seems to be hearing runours of other deals being evaluated

"Mike, I did catch whispers of a possible trade with another team, but I should stress that the chances of this happening are extremely remote. If it picks up any stram, I’ll talk more about it but right now it’s really in the very, very early stages, and I want to see what happens over the next few weeks before I go reporting anything, especially something like this.

As for Edwards, the Browns are not going to part with him unless they get a receiver or equal talent and/or value. To be honest, I’m really starting to become convinced they go in another direction – one which I don’t think a lot of people have anticipated as of yet.?

One thought on a possible trade target is

LT Levi Jones (Bengals)

from rotoworld.com

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said Thursday that Levi Jones remains his starting left tackle.
Lewis said Jones is healthy and ready to play, but the coach wouldn't comment on the report that the Bengals are "actively" trying to trade him. Pencil him into the starting lineup for now, but keep the eraser handy.
Source: bengals.com

Jones has had back and knee problems, but he is a proven quality player. By all reports he is healthy and ready to go. So if he gets the green light from our medical staff, he would be a great asset. He would likely be reasonably cheap, (perhaps for a 3rd or 4th round draft pick) and is reasonably young (turning 30 in august)

Looking at his game log, he hasn't been that unhealthy

2008 Cincinnati Bengals - 10 GP, 10 GS
2007 Cincinnati Bengals - 15 GP, 13 GS
2006 Cincinnati Bengals - 6 GP, 5 GS
2005 Cincinnati Bengals - 15 GP, 15 GS
2004 Cincinnati Bengals - 16 GP, 16 GS
2003 Cincinnati Bengals - 16 GP, 16 GS
2002 Cincinnati Bengals - 16 GP, 14 GS

Contract wise, we could get him for a very reasonable price with no risk (ie Guaranteed money)

His salary would be
2009: $3 million
2010: $3.75 million
2011: $4.55 million
2012: $5 million
2013: Free Agent

Which is a bargain if he can regain anywhere near his pro bowl form.

He is a considerable upgrade over Diehl, and allows the Giants to move Diehl to LG (and Seubert to primary Oline backup)

What do you think?

Another possibility could be Robert Gallery (if the front office believe he could play LT)

he does have all the physical tools to play LT and very likely would do alot better in the Giants system (and better coaching)

Gallery is a quality run blocker which will builds on our team strength, plus he has excellent athleticism; he is only 29 this July and has been very durable.

Gallery reportedly has a $9million cap number in 2009 which is alot considering they project him at guard.

Gallery's base salaries are: 2009: $615,000, 2010: $625,000, 2011-2012: Under Contract, 2013: Free Agent

By trading Gallery (perhaps for a 3rd or 4th round pick) the Raiders can clear up alot of cap room, plus draft a quality guard as a replacement (and letting new Coach Tom Cable pick his guys).

Al Davis has certainly been known for trading players in recent years.

any thoughts?

I don't know a lot about Levi Jones but if he is healthy and an absolute upgrade over Diehl then I might think about it. I like Diehl better at guard but I think he does ok at left tackle also so this isn't a major concern imo as long as we go after someone in the draft.

I'd still like to see the giants go after T Gonzalez but after looking over the chiefs roster, I don't think that there's anyway that they would let him go. That would leave them a big hole at tight end. They actually should have a pretty decent offense now with Cassel at qb, Dwayne Bowe at wr, Gonzalez at TE, and they picked up Bobby Engram who should make a good third receiver option.

If Edwards and Boldin are not viable targets, then we are not likely to get a #1 WR

other trade options include TE and LT

personally I would like Gonzalez, but the front offie seems to have made a move towards younger players (and why we haven't pursyed Holt or Harrison)

perhaps Tony Scheffler(Broncos) is a possibility. He reportedly is on the trade market and is a recieving TE like Gonzalez and is a heck of alot younger

interesting article on Gallery

from http://bleacherreport.com/articles/25206-robert-gallery-an-analysis-of-the-oakland-raiders-guard

Robert Gallery: An Analysis of the Oakland Raiders Guard

by Jeremy Kaufman (Columnist)

May 24, 2008
Today's Must Reads

Here is my analysis of Robert Gallery, guard of the Oakland Raiders.

1. Pass Protection: B-

While Gallery wasn’t overly successful in pass protection while playing tackle for the Oakland Raiders, as a guard, his pass blocking has improved.

2. Run Blocking: B+

Robert is an above average run blocker, as he has the power to push back defenders as well as the quickness to trap and pull. I believe that with the right coaching, Robert Gallery has the potential to become an elite run blocker.

3. Strength: A-

A large reason why Robert Gallery was selected as a No. 2 overall pick was because of his great strength. At 6-foot-7 and 325 pounds, Gallery has the frame and the power to dominate at the guard position, even though he had played primarily at tackle earlier in his career.

4. Quickness: A-

For an offensive lineman, Gallery is very quick. In fact, Robert was a collegiate tight end prior to being moved onto the offensive line, which is a great testament to his quickness. As a guard, Gallery’s quickness inside should become a powerful weapon.

5. Mobility: B+

As previously mentioned, Gallery’s experience as a tight end and as an offensive tackle would imply that Gallery is quite mobile for someone who is playing the guard position. This mobility allows Gallery to get to the outside on pull plays and can allow him to make blocks in the second level when appropriate. With a little more experience at the guard position, this factor could make Gallery very good.

6. Awareness: C

Thus far in his career, Gallery’s Achilles’ heel has been his awareness. While this is little fault of his own, as coaches constantly moved him from position to position, it is still an aspect of his game that he must improve. However, Gallery seems to have found a home at the guard position with the Oakland Raiders, and with the improved coaching of Lane Kiffin, I will believe this area of Gallery’s game will improve. While many scouts and fans have already written off Gallery as a bust, I believe Robert Gallery still has the potential to blossom into a star if this facet of his game improves.

TE Tony Scheffler (Broncos)

from rotoworld

Broncos TE Tony Scheffler has reported for the team's offseason training program.
"He worked out with the team today and I believe he'll continue to do so and I'm happy about that," coach Josh McDaniels said. Scheffler remains a candidate to be traded, though it's nice to see that he's separated himself from McJaygate.
Source: Denver Post

Scheffler is a 6'5, 250 TE who has been productive with limilted opportunities

2008 Denver Broncos, 13 GP, 7 GS, 40 Rec, 645 yds, 16.1 average, 72 Long, 3 TD
2007 Denver Broncos 16 GP, 7 GS, 49 Rec, 549 yds, 11.2 average, 41 Long, 5 TD
2006 Denver Broncos 13 GP, 5 GS, 18 Rec, 286 yds, 15.9 average, 29 Long, 4 TD

Scheffler is off contract after 2009 (base salary $530,000) so it would require a contract extension after the trade (perhaps a mid round pick)

Scheffler is one Cutler's favourite targets (and friends), but there is little chance that Cutler will remain a Bronco on opening day, it makes sense for McDaniels to clean house with his new regime to ensure no future disruptions

I think Scheffler would be a very good complement to Boss and provides a genuine deep threat at TE which will take pressure of our WRs

any thoughts

another thought of a possible trade target

LT Jason Peters (Bills)

Yes there are issues (most revolve around being paid), but there is little doubt he has the tools and work ehtic to be a quality LT

With a Plax-like contract laiden with plenty of incentives and bonus, Peters could be a real asset. Particularly as he is young at 27
and a probowl LT (in a conference stacked with quality LTs)

Peters would allow Diehl to move inside to LG

The "issues" around Peters will drop his trade value a bit

But remember despite these "issues" the Bills want him on their roster. The main issue seems to be pay. That is reasonably understandable, look at his contract:

7/15/2006: Signed a five-year, $15 million contract. The deal included $5.75 million in first-year bonuses. 2009: $2.95 million, 2010: $3.4 million, 2011: Free Agent

That is dirt cheap for an average lineman let along a starting LT; this is after being an undrafted free agent.
