Rumour - Giants, Browns Agree to Edwards Trade?
This is unsubstantiated rumour at this point, take it for what it is.
There is rumoured to be a Giants press conference at 10:00 today, so I guess we may soon know
but we do know the Giants are interested in Braylon Edwards and that the Giants play things exceptionally close to their chest, meaning we likely won't know anything until a feal would be done. Also beat writers don't always know everything

Report: Giants, Browns Agree to Edwards Trade
8:05 Update - I finally got a reply from one of the beat writers (whose name I will not disclose until they OK me using it) and the news isn't appealing. They informed me that the ESPN report also claimed there is a 10:00 AM EST news conference tomorrow -- something the Giants don't typically do for trades. The quote I got was "It's BS as far as I know." However, by all accounts, the writer did confirm that this (apparently incorrect) report WAS made ... which has to make you wonder about ESPN and their radio affiliates.
7:57 Update - I've done as much digging as I can -- which included e-mails to every beat writer I know -- and don't really have an update. The fact that I haven't gotten a single reply from any beat writer (they are usually quick) could mean something ... but then again, it could mean nothing. They all have their own lives obviously, so they could just be busy. But to play Devil's Advocate, it seems somewhat odd to get no reply whatsoever. Perhaps they are all writing their own articles to confirm (or deny) this ESPN 950 report.
*The following has not been confirmed by any local beat writers or reputable Giants sources and should be considered a rumor for the time being.*
According to a report on ESPN 950 in Philadelphia, the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns have agreed in principle on a trade that would land wide receiver Braylon Edwards in East Rutherford in exchange for a first and fifth-round draft pick.
This could very well be nothing more than rumor-mongering or an attempt to shake Eagles brass up in an effort to get them moving. However, where there's smoke, there is often fire.
I advise taking this with a grain of salt for now and offer several different scenarios (along with the one above) for this report:
1) It could be an intentional leak by the Browns in order to shake up the trade market and get other teams interested.
2) It could be some foolish Philly DJ trying to stir something up by poking fun at extremely hungry Giants fans.
3) It could very well be true.
If true, I actually like the deal. Some will say the first is a lot to give up, but with two second-round picks, it's really not all that much for a talented and proven number one. Also, the fact that Big Blue wouldn't give up anything more than another late-round pick is impressive and extremely appealing.
Either way, this has given us something to talk about for the next 24 hours (the amount of time the "reporter" claimed it would take for this deal to be announced/become official).
Stay tuned to Giants 101 as we update this situation.

Giants Close to Landing Edwards or Johnson?
After yesterday's debacle in Philadelphia, I am hesitant to even report this. But in an effort to keep you G101 readers up-to-date with the rumors and ongoings of the New York football Giants, I figured I'd throw this out there as well.
During the insanity that was the rumored Edwards-to-New York deal last night, WFAN's Steve Somers reported (around 11:00 PM EST) that the Giants were close to landing either Braylon Edwards or Chad Johnson ... although no additional details were given.
While this latest bit of news isn't as concrete as the Philly report (which still hasn't been completely debunked), it is sort of in line with the earlier rumors.
Now, before we all get worked up again, it's very possible that Somers is just running with the earlier rumor out of Philly and adding his own little twist to it based on recent rumors regarding Ocho Cinco. However, like many New Yorkers, I am much more inclined to believe him than some nobody DJ out of Philadelphia who should be jobless within the next few days.
But as always, I advise you guys to take this with a grain of salt until one of our local beat writers confirms or denies it ... something they haven't done as of 6:30 AM EST this morning.

I could really see trading #29 and #151 for Braylon Edwards happening and it would be good value for both sides
It is slightly more than we offered previously (#45, #151)
Mangini wants to bring in his own guys and has plenty of needs.
