WR info from Sullivan and Gilbride Empty WR info from Sullivan and Gilbride

OC Kevin Gilbride and WR Coach Mike Sullivan have recently made comments about the Giants WRs

So I'm hoping these young guys -- when I say "young guys" I'm not just referring to the two draft choices, I'm definitely referring to see what Mario can do and Sinorice - this will be kind of his big chance. He will start off in the three wides. He will be the starter. So now you just hope - I know he will hope, for sure - that he flourishes and does well. I know we are hoping that somebody does and I have no reason to think it won't be him.

and

"This creates great opportunities, not just for these rookies but for Domenik Hixon, Steve Smith, Mario Manningham, and Sinorice Moss," Sullivan said. "There are a lot of young guys that have varying degrees of experience that for the first time in a long time have a legitimate wide open competition to see who is going to be the guy."

Going into training camp (at least) the three starting WRs in our 3 reciever sets will be Hixon, Moss and Smith

Manningham will push for playing time

I can see them working Nicks and Barden in there as well with all 6 of those guys getting playing time in various packages.

it looks like the front office are ok to let Nicks and Barden develop and work them into the rotation as they develop

David Tyree looks to be the odd man out, the Giants are likely to go with 6 WR roster spots; perhaps they could create a roster spot for Tyree, but I think he is really up against it. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make the roster.

I really like how the Giants are approaching the WR group this offseason. There has been alot of discussion about needs, but much like when Shockey left, the Giants had talented young guys there who have shown flashes and can step up when given their opportunities.

Thinking about it, I do like a 3 WR set of Hixon, Moss and Smith.
Moss has blazing speed and can get deep, as can Hixon and Smith has very good quickness over the middle; then you work in Manningham, Nicks and Barden into the mix. Add in Boss/Beckum and a RB (we have 4 good ones) and that is a very good group with a ton of depth and talent.
They aren't big names or flashy, but they will cause mis-matches and guys will get open. Plus there is very good young depth at all these positions with other guys competing for a chance to show what they can do. Maybe the Giants have the most under-rated passing game in the NFL.

There is one formation I really like the idea of

3 WRs (perhaps Moss, Hixon and Smith/Manningham) and 2 RB (Jacobs and Hedgecock)

If you are a defence, do you play the speed/quickness of Hixon, Moss, Smith, Manningham? or the power of Jacobs, Hedgecock

replce a speed WR with a stud physical WR (Nicks/Barden) and thinks become very interesting indeed Smile
