Should Reese make a trade offer for NT Vince Wilfork?
Vince Wilfork is holding out, which I can understand considering he is on the last year of a rookie deal which he has certainly outplayed.
Wilfork is not going to hit the open market, the worst case scenario the Pats franchise him and trade him. Wilfork will likely get a deal somewhere between what Canty and Haynesworth got this year. Wilfork is worth the money, but with Ron Brace there (and Seymour off contract) I doubt they sign him.
Wilfork isn't going into camp or OTAs and the Pats are reportedly looking to get some money back ($500K - 22.7% of his 2009 salary). This situation looks headed downhill real fast
Presumably Wilfork would be available for trade if the price was right.
Assuming Wilfork is available (albeit discretely), should the Giants consider making a blockbuster trade offer for Wilfork? It would cost at least a 1st and 3rd pick; but could add players as well.
The Giants had (or could create) enough cap space to make a serious run at signing Braylon Edwards; so the contract is something that could happen.
The giants only have one real NT on the roster, Cofield, who is a young, solid, experienced player but not spectacular
(pretty much a two down player for us) and is also coming back from offseason knee surgery plus is off contract at the end of the year.

would love to have Wilfork play for the Giants.. I guess it all would come down to money.
Would we still have enough money to re-sign Eli?

How about Cofield and our 2010 1st for Wilfork possibly with a conditional mid/late pick as well (or a 2nd tier player such as Gerris Wilkinson, Sinorice Moss, David Tyree, Kevin Dockery etc)
Giants point of view
The Giants get the stud young, experienced NT we have missed since Keith Hamilton. Like Tuck and Osi, he is a player that legitmately demands extra attention.
A DT rotation of Wilfork, Robbins, Canty, Bernard and Alford would be really, really nasty combined with our ends
The Giants have talented youngsters at almost every position, so losing 1st round pick is perhaps reasonable.
Patriots point of view
The Pats get a solid young DT with good experience (and probably fits better in a 3-4) - plus a SB ring as a starter.
Ty Warren, Richard Seymour, Barry Cofield, Ron Brace, LeKevin Smith, Jarvis Green, Steven Williams, Darryl Richard, Mike Wright, Titus Adams, and Myron Pryor would still be a very good DT rotation.
they can lock up Richard Seymour (also off contract after 2009)
plus get an extra 2010 1st to address other needs.

Yep, almost certainly
1. Eli has a current contract worth over $12 mil in 2009; there is alot of scope to move that into the 2009 portion of hs new deal's SB
2. After a certain point the the season it can count against the 2010 cap
3. The Giants did have (or could create) enough cap room to make a serious bid for Boldin and Edwards. The Giants almost certainly can somewhere around the $8mil Edwards (and Boldin) were after.
4. The Giants have the best contract guy in the NFLin Kevin Abrams
5. Have no doubt, Eli wants to be here
6. Wilfork will almost certainly be willing to take a similar discount for the Giants as he will take for the Pats
"Patriots NT Vince Wilfork reiterated Monday that he isn't necessarily looking to break the bank on a long-term contract.
Wilfork isn't in search of the "best contract there is," but one that will make him "comfortable." His status for mandatory minicamps remains unclear." - Rotoworld.com
