Giants 2009 Roster Predictions 14 July
Here are my 2009 Roster predictions for the start of the season
The last roster spot will depend on final team balance (hence there is one roster spot that is either OL, DT or LB; at this stage I lean towards OL)
If you have any questions on positions, please let me know
I have assumed that Robbins will start the season on PUP as he comes back from microfracture surgery and that Boley will also start on PUP as he will be 8-10 weeks rehabbing after surgery before he can get back into it and will take a little further time to be ready to play.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quarterback {3}
Eli Manning, David Carr, Rhett Bomar
Running Backs {5}
Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw, André Brown, Danny Ware, Madison Hedgecock (FB)
Tight Ends {3}
Kevin Boss, Travis Beckum, Darcy Johnson
Wide Recievers {6}
Domenik Hixon, Steve Smith, Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham/Sinorice Moss*, Ramses Barden, David Tyree
*I expect either Mario Manningham or Sinorice Moss will be traded before the season for 2010 draft picks.
There is far too much talent here and the other teams don't really know how the Giants WR will shape up and who won't make the final cut. Jerry Reese is too smart to let some of the excess WR talent he currently has on the roster get away for nothing.
Offensive Line {8 or 9}
Shaun O'Hara, David Diehl, Kareem McKenzie, Chris Snee, Rich Seubert, William Beatty, Adam Koets, Kevin Boothe + Guy Whimper
Defensive Ends {4}
Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, Mathias Kiwanuka, Maurice Evans
Defensive Tackles {4 or 5}
Chris Canty, Barry Cofield, Rocky Bernard, Jay Alford + Robert Henderson
Linebackers {7 or 8}
Antonio Pierce, Danny Clark, Jonathan Goff, Bryan Kehl, Clint Sintim, Gerris Wilkinson, Zak DeOssie + Chase Blackburn
LB is the other position where someone might be traded for 2010 draft picks considering the log jam of good talent, particularly when Boley is good to go.
Cornerback {6}
Corey Webster, Terrell Thomas, Aaron Ross, Kevin Dockery, DeAndre Wright, Vince Anderson*
*as a corner/safety
Safeties {4}
Michael Johnson, Kenny Phillips, CC Brown, Sha'reff Rashad
Special Teams {2}
Lawrence Tynes (PK), Jeff Feagles (P)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Physically Unable to Perform {2}
Fred Robbin (DT), Michael Boley (LB)
Physically Unable to Perform is the term for a rule in the National Football League which allows teams to designate players as "Physically Unable to Perform" or "PUP". Once they are designated as such, they are prohibited from practicing with the team. They can, however, rehabilitate and participate in team meetings. If a player begins training camp on the PUP list, they can be moved to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player is not allowed to be placed on the PUP list if they start training camp on the active roster.
A player who begins the regular season on the PUP list must sit out his team's first six games. After that point, a team has three weeks to start having the player practice; once the player begins practicing, the team has another three weeks to put the player on the active roster. If the player is not activated by that time, or if he does not begin practicing within that three week window, he must remain on the PUP list for the remainder of the season.

André Woodson (QB), Patrick Allen (RB), Micah Rucker (WR), Cliff Lewis (OL), Robert Henderson (DL), Kenny Ingram (LB), Kelvin Smith (LB), Stoney Woodson (CB)
