KANSAS CITY - Notes, anecdotes and statistics from the Giants' 27-16 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs:

*The Giants improved to 4-0 for the second consecutive season, the first time they've accomplished that since 1989-90.

*The Giants swept their three-game road trip through Dallas, Tampa Bay and Houston. They are just the eighth team of the 107 that have played at least three consecutive road games since 1990 to win every game. Both the Giants and Tom Coughlin are on the list twice. The Giants swept a three-game trip in 1994, when they traveled to Houston, Washington and Cleveland on successive weeks. Coughlin's 2001 Jacksonville Jaguars also won three road games in three weeks. Of course, Coughlin's 2007 Giants won three straight road playoff games on the way to Super Bowl XLII.

*The Giants have won their first three road games for the first time since 1990.

*The Giants' 429 total yards was their highest total since they gained 459 yards in the overtime victory over Carolina on Dec. 28, 2008. It was their highest total in a four-quarter game since they had 523 yards vs. Seattle on Oct. 5, 2008.

*The Giants held Kansas City to 88 passing yards one week after limiting Tampa Bay to 58 through the air.

*The Giants sacked Matt Cassel five times, their highest sack total since they had five at Pittsburgh on Oct. 26, 2008.

*The Giants scored a touchdown on their first offensive series for the second week in a row when Eli Manning threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Steve Smith. The 16-yard drive was set up when Bryan Kehl recovered Jamaal Charles' fumble on the opening kickoff. This is the first time the Giants have scored touchdowns on their first possessions in two straight games since Oct. 15 and 21, 2007, in victories at Atlanta and at home vs. San Francisco. Both of those scores were Manning touchdown passes to Amani Toomer of five and four yards.

Under Tom Coughlin, the Giants are 16-8 in games in which they score a touchdown on their first offensive series.

*The Giants recovered an opponent's fumble on the opening kickoff for the first time since Sept. 19, 2005 vs. New Orleans.

*On the Giants' second possession, Manning fumbled when he was sacked by Tamba Hali and the ball was recovered by Glenn Dorsey. It was the first turnover committed by the Giants since Washington's DeAngelo Hall intercepted a Manning pass in the third quarter of the season opener on Sept. 13. The Giants ran 166 plays over 27 offensive series between turnovers.

*Manning's streak without an interception ended on the next series when his pass caromed off Mario Manningham and was picked off by Brandon Flowers. Manning threw 79 passes between interceptions.

*Manning threw three touchdown passes to increase his career total to 106. That broke a tie with Fran Tarkenton and moved him into sole possession of third place on the Giants' career list. Phil Simms is first with 199, followed by Charlie Conerly with 173.

*Manning suffered a bruised heel while throwing an incomplete pass to Steve Smith with 13:28 remaining in the fourth quarter. He wasn't hit, but was moving gingerly after the play. On the next snap, he threw a touchdown to Hakeem Nicks. Manning was replaced by David Carr on the next series.

"We'll have to see tomorrow," Manning said when asked about the injury. "I think it's just a bruised heel. I can walk around and move around, but there is some discomfort. It was non-contact, it just happened at the end of the drop. I don't think it's awful; I've been injured worse before. We'll see how it feels throughout the week."

Manning was asked if he was nervous about the injury.

"Anytime you feel a little strain or pull down there you get a little nervous, because you don't know what it is, like an Achilles or something," he said. "But after a second I knew it wasn't that. I could stand up, I could still walk around. I could put some pressure on it, so I was more relieved after that."

Coughlin said Manning could not have re-entered the game. Manning will be examined further on Monday.

"I saw it when he stepped forward to throw," Coughlin said. "We're going to have to wait and see what they're going to do there.

"It's just one of those things. He was driving into a throw and all of a sudden he showed he had a little issue."

Manning has started a Giants quarterback record 75 consecutive games. He seems confident he'll keep the streak alive Sunday against Oakland.

"I always assume I'm going to play and that I'm going to be out there," Manning said. "I've always been a pretty quick healer. I'll do everything I can possibly do this week to get healthy and get prepared to play Oakland."

*Steve Smith set a career-high with 11 receptions and tied his career best with 134 yards. He caught 10 passes for 134 yards two weeks ago in Dallas. Smith is the first Giant with two 10-catch games in the same season since tight end Jeremy Shockey in 2005.

*Smith's 11 receptions are tied for the third-highest total in franchise history and the second-highest by a wide receiver (the most in a non-overtime game). Running back Tiki Barber holds the Giants record with 13 catches at Dallas on Jan. 2, 2000. The Giants have had three 12-reception games: tight end Mark Bavaro at Cincinnati on Oct. 13, 1985; Shockey vs. Dallas on Nov. 11, 2007; and wide receiver Amani Toomer in an overtime victory at Philadelphia on Sept. 15, 2006.

Smith is the eighth Giant to have exactly 11 catches in a game, a feat last accomplished by Shockey on Oct. 5, 2003.

*Smith's 34 catches are the highest four-game total in Giants history.

*Smith caught two touchdown passes (of three and 25 yards) to become the first Giant to score multiple touchdowns in a game since Brandon Jacobs had three against Carolina last Dec. 28. Smith is the first Giant to catch two touchdown passes in a game since Toomer did so in the NFC Divisional Playoff Game at Dallas on Jan. 13, 2008 and the first in a regular season game since Plaxico Burress vs. New England on Dec. 29, 2007.

*Smith has at least one touchdown reception in three consecutive games, the first Giant to do that since Burress scored in each of the first six games of the 2007 season.

*Nicks' first NFL touchdown was spectacular. On third-and-nine from the Giants' 46 early in the fourth quarter, he caught a go screen from Manning at the 45-yard line, faked his way past a couple of defenders and took off up the sideline. Nicks stopped short to let cornerback Maurice Leggett run past him, then covered the final five yards to the end zone to give the Giants a 27-3 lead. Nicks, the Giants' first-round draft choice this year, had missed the previous two games with a foot injury. The 54-yard play was the Giants' longest of the season.

*Punter Jeff Feagles played in his 340th game Sunday in Kansas City. That ties him with George Blanda in third place on the NFL's career list:

Most Games Played/Career
Morten Andersen 382
Gary Anderson 353
Jeff Feagles 340
George Blanda 340

Feagles has played his 340 games consecutively, which is an NFL record. He has never missed a game in his 22-year career.

*Coughlin lost his first replay challenge of the season with 6:11 remaining in the second quarter. Mario Manningham caught and then lost a pass on the left sideline that was ruled incomplete. Coughlin challenged, believing Manningham retained possession long enough for it to be a legal catch. But after review, referee Jerome Boger upheld the call on the field. Coughlin is 21-24 with the Giants and 30-33 in his career on replay challenges.

*Kansas City coach Todd Haley won his replay challenge and it helped the Chiefs score their first touchdown. On a fourth-and-11 in the fourth quarter, Cassel's pass to Bobby Engram from the Giants' 30 was originally ruled a 10-yard gain. But Haley challenged the spot and upon review, Boger increased it to a 12-yard play and a first down. Four plays later, Cassel got out of another fourth-and-11 hole with an 11-yard pass to Dwayne Bowe. That moved Kansas City to the eight and Sean Ryan scored two plays later. Giants opponents are 1-1 on replay challenges this season.

*The Giants unveiled their version of the Wildcat on a fourth-and-three in the third quarter. Although Manning stayed on the field, the ball was snapped directly to Ahmad Bradshaw, who ran nine yards for a first down, helping to set up a Lawrence Tynes field goal.

*Middle linebacker Antonio Pierce led the Giants with seven tackles (six solo), including two for losses. Michael Boley, Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Mathias Kiwanuka and Rocky Bernard all sacked Cassel.

*Rookie tight end Travis Beckum made a terrific catch for a 15-yard-yard gain on the final play of the first quarter...Boley saved a touchdown without looking, when a pass for Bobby Engram bounced off his helmet in the end zone...In addition to recovering the fumble on the opening kickoff, Kehl secured the Chiefs' onside kick to start the second half.

*In support of the NFL's Breast Cancer Awareness Month initiative, Brandon Jacobs, Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Kevin Boss, Michael Boley, Corey Webster, Steve Smith, Terrell Thomas, Mathias Kiwanuka and Sinorice Moss wore pink gloves. Every player had a pink ribbon decal on his helmet. Coughlin and the rest of the coaches wore pink-billed caps. The officials wore pink wristbands, the towels used in the bench areas were pink and pink ribbons with the NFL logo were painted on the field. Several players, including Manning, will wear pink cleats for next week's home game against Oakland.

*In addition to Manning, Pierce and Feagles - elected by the players to be captains for the entire season - Rich Seubert and Chase Blackburn served as game captains.

*The Giants' inactive players were wide receivers Domenik Hixon and Ramses Barden, cornerback Aaron Ross, offensive linemen Guy Whimper and Adam Koets, running back Danny Ware, linebacker Clint Sintim and defensive lineman Chris Canty.
