Pizan's Big Blue Board

Post  Pizan on Wed Mar 17, 2010 12:36 am

By now it's no secret Chris Mara and I talk on a regular basis via email. Using a little Science, Math, and Footballnomics I came up with an equation that gave me a list of top 15 prospects also known as, The Big Blue Board. This is fool proof, unless of course we trade down. Also, it should be noted this List was heavily based on another very complex formula of Need and Best Player Available.

1. NDAMUKONG SUH, DT, NEBRASKA
2. Gerald McCoy DT, Oklahoma
3. Sean Weatherspoon LB Missouri
4. Rolando McClain ILB Alabama
5. Kyle Wilson CB Boise State
6. Mike Iupati OG Idaho
7. C.J. Spiller RB Clemson
8. Bryan Bulaga OT Iowa
9. Maurkice Pouncey C/G Florida
10. Brandon Graham DE Michigan
11. Earl Thomas S/CB Texas
12. Derrick Morgan DE, Georgia Tech
13. Brian Price DT, UCLA
14. Jermaine Gresham TE. Oklahoma
15. Terrance Cody DT, Alabama

*Certain high profile/ranked players didn't make the list i kept this as real as possible. Obviously we aren't trading up for Eric Berry and he isn't falling to the 15th pick, get it?

I don't agree with all of then, but there is clearly some thought gone into it

That seems like a fairly realistic list.
Who on that list do you think the Giants would have to trade up for? Obviously Suh would be one of them.

Do you think Spiller will fall to us or would we have to trade up to get him?
I would be thrilled if the Giants picked Spiller up at #15.

Withou getting into to much detail I'll give simple reasoning behind it. See chances are our first round pick is on this list. Which one is anybodys guess. Suh and McCoy are far and away the best dts in this draft. If we want one we have to trade up but I'll get into my opinion on that in a future post. Weatherspoon and mcclain. Most have mcclain ahead but I think spoon has that it factor. I also think mcclain is better suited for a 34. I have Kyle wilson as my número UNO ranked corner. He also excells as a returner. Iupati could start immediately at lg then take over at rt preparing us for a rvamped ol. Although Im not high on drafting a rb in the 1st spiller is a big play waiting to happen. A few years ago dallas drafted Felix jones when barber seemed fine well spiller would be our felix jones pick. Bulaga would be a bpa pick not a trade up. I don't think he makes it here but with more athletic ots he could slip a little. Pouncey would be would plug right in at lg then move to c replacing ohara. Graham only if we plan on moving osi. Thomas because of his versatility. He can play two postions for us. Morgan would be if we trade osi. I like price but I think he may slip outta the first. His arm length is a major issue. Gresham would be an upgrade over boss and more of a luxery pick. Cody would be that 2 down space eater.

This is likely to change maybe a couple hundred times from now til the draft. I'll keep you updated.

I think we are more likely to trade up with our 2nd round pick than our first. for example trading our 3nd and 3rd should get us into the late 1st

I think McClain or Weatherspoon will be there at 15, there isn't too much between them in my opinion, but
I think Reese has McClain rated alot higher. Hence why that has been my pick.

I see McClain being alot like Nicks last year, alot of people have us picking him up.

I think I was the only one I saw with Nicks and Barden (although I had Connor Barwin over Sintim)

Sorry I didn't see this before I posted that last reply. I'm at work and posting from my iPhone. It takes a lil while.

We'll have to trade up foe Suh, McCoy, mcclain. There's a big drop off in talent for dt after those two. Dan Williams is way too inconsistent for a top 15 pick and Price doesn't have the arm length you look for in a top 15 pick. Mcclain because there are a few 34 teams that sit ahead of us that need a MLB as bad as we do. Spiller is on that border line. He could go as high as 7 or right before us at 14. In the quick mock I did he wasn't available for our pick. If he is there it comes down to him, spoon, Wilson. Spoon fills a more pressing need but won't put as many fans in the stands as spiller. Meaning he'll sell more tickets and in our new home that will be very important. I don't think we'll trade up for him unless we somehow acquire a MLB before the draft or if both mcclain and spoon are gone before we pick.

I see what your saying but I don't see that becoming a factor for the Giants. I doubt there will be any empty seats come game day.
Now if we were the jets that could play into their minds while drafting.

For the record, I think Giants go with Mclain or Weatherspoon if still available.

I think it matters because of the cost of seats. If they don't bring excitement to the stadium its gonna be hard convincing fans to spend all that money during economic hardship on season tickets. They have to convince the fans it will be worth it watching at the stadium instead of inside their home. I'm sure that played a part in jerry jones selecting Felix Jones, although thats just my opinion. I think Spoon would be the pick but considering all factors that should play a part.

I laughed at your shot at the Jets, TD.

Playing Devils Advocate, here are more players I could see in the mix at 15 although perhaps not as likley

CB Joe Haden
DE Jason Pierre-Paul
DE Carlos Dunlap
DT Dan Williams
OT Trent Williams
OT Anthony Davis

it will all depend on just how the Giants scouts and the front office rate them

If you consider trade up options, you should equally consider trade down options

I don't see terrance cody as an option at all

Re: Pizan's Big Blue Board

Post  Pizan on Fri Mar 19, 2010 12:41 pm

Well a few of those names were very close to making the list. They still might on the updated one. I'll give a few reasons why they didn't make mine.

Haden- we aren't looking for just a starting corner out of our 4th cb. Wilson is on the list because he is also a very good returner as well as a good all around specials player. He's not just an insurance policy to Ross like haden would be. With that said there are a few teams before us looking for a starting cb. He has better value for them than for us because he can jump right in and start. Also in my mock he wasn't there at 15.

Jpp- I like his motor but he has a lot of learning to do. He was one who almost made the list. But 15 is too high for a situational pass rusher. And I have Graham ranked ahead of him.

Dunlap- he is a late 1st early 2nd prospect to me. Too incosistent.

Williams- way to inconsistent. I think he'll be drafted early 20's because of his potentail to play nt.

Trent- 15 is too high for a back up swing tackle especially since we already have Beatty and whimper.

Davis- has great potential but his character isn't up to giants standard.

If I did trading down the list would have to be a lot longer. I don't have that much time on my hands. Also I don't like the idea of trading down when we have a shot at a top 15 prospect outta this draft. Like I said before, I really don't think we have too many needs and I feel thst our role players are in place now we need a big time talent.

Cody is a hard player to find. because of that he'll be drafted very close to where we pick. If you happen to catch any bama games the reason mcclain had it so easy was this guy.
