Alternate offseaon idea
here is an alternative offseason idea
Trade Osi Umenyiora to St Louis for Chris Long and #65
Trade 2nd round pick #46 and conditional 2011 pick to Kansas City for DT Glenn Dorsey
Trade 3rd round pick #76 to Buffalo for MLB Paul Posluszny
The Bills recently signed Andra Davis, meaning one of last year’s starters is expendable.
Trade 3rd round pick #65, to Buffalo for Donte Whitner
The Bills signed S Bryan Scott in addition to having George Wilson and Jairus Byrd, meaning Whitner could be available for the right price.
Contracts
Chris Long
2010: $1.11 million, 2011: $1.835 million, 2012: $2.56 million, 2013: $3.285 million (Voided Year), 2014: Free Agent
Long’s 5 year deal also has $12 million is available through incentives. Long is eligible for a onetime $4.01 million "likely to be earned" escalator based on performance.
Assuming $2million in incentives per year and the full escalator, that makes Chris Long’s contract a 3 year $15.515 m deal with no guaranteed money
Glenn Dorsey
2010: $983,500, 2011: $1,582,250, 2012: $2.181 million, 2013: $2.75 million (Option Year), 2014: Free Agent
Dorsey’s 5 year deal has $18 million is available through incentives. Assuming they are evenly spaced, that makes Dorsey’s deal a 4 year $21.997m deal assuming all incentives are met.
Donte Whitner
2010: $2.445 million, 2011: $1.95075 million (Voidable Year)
Paul Posluszny
2010: $665,000, 2011: Free Agent
I looked at AJ Hawk, but his contract makes things a little harder
AJ Hawk
2010: $4,123,750 (+ $500,000 workout bonus), 2011: $10 million, 2012: Free Agent
We would likely need to sign Hawk to a contract extention
Poslunszy and Whitner know Fewell's system, Whitner also gives insurance for Phillips health.
Draft
15. Mike Iupati, Idaho (6-5, 331, 5.30, 27)
A Stud guard to slot into LG.
112. S Darrell Stuckey, Kansas, 6-0, 205, 4.48, 17
A very under rated hard hitting safety with very good speed, athleticism and decent ball skills.
143. DT Linval Joseph, East Carolina (6-5, 328, 5.11, 39)
A strong athletic DT to anchor our Dline
174. DE Lindsay Witten (6-5, 250, 4.71, 23)
A good small school pass rusher to add to our DE rotation.
205. P Zoltan Mesko, Michigan (6-5, 240, DNP, 16)
A strong legged punter with a huge kick
This would give the Giants a roster something like:
Offense (25)
QB (3): Eli Manning, Jim Sorgi, Rhett Bhomar
WR (6): Steve Smith, Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham, Ramsees Barden, Domenik Hixon, Derek Hagan/ Sinorice Moss

Re: Alternate offseaon idea
I don't think the rams are ready to give up on Chris long just yet. Imo that's why they wanted spags. But say if they would be interested in that trade I would be all for it. I like long as a college prospect. He hasn't done much as a pro but he certainly has a chance.
A trade for glen Dorsey is very reasonable. They tried dishing him last year before the drat I expect we'll see that again.
I'm not sure but I think whitner was benched by fewell.
Poz is a good player I really doubt they brought in Davis to replace him.
I still like the idea of hawk. His salary is half the reason I believe we can get him from the packers at a good price.

Re: Alternate offseaon idea
I think if we offered Osi, we could probably get Long, beong an uncapped year lets teams shed huge contracts
Agreed on Hawk and Dorsey
I just wanted to look at veteran options and what that could mean for the draft/team
I am pretty much in favour of signing Barrett Ruud of his tender, it would be very expensive in Picks, bt that is our only major need. I think he would be better than either rookie
also don't disregard Sean Lee in the 2nd round of the draft, he is right up there as a mlb prospect
