Giants Mock - 14 April Empty Giants Mock - 14 April

Here is my latest mock draft thoughts

I expect our new defensive scheme will be some variant of a Tampa 2, although incoporating elements from Spagnuolo's/Sheridan's system.

The one position that is really intriguing to me is Clint Sintim, I am not sure whether he fits at SLB or DE in Fewell's scheme or some combination of both. I suspect he is a better fit at DE where he can use his pass rushing skills, but we will see.

Draft

Giants trade #15 to New England for #23, #53

23. TE Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma (6-5¼, 261, 4.72)
Gresham is the stud all-round TE the Giants have been looking for. Boss has been serviceable, but we are looking to upgrade. Gresham has more talent than Shockey and no issues. This upgrades our last major offensive skill position. Boss becomes a quality #2 TE and Beckum fills more of a H-Back role where he is better suited.

Giants trade #46, #76 to New York Jets for #29

#46 29. LB Sean Weatherspoon, Missouri (6-1¼, 239, 4.68)
With Weatherspoon still available the Giants trade up to get their stud MLB.

53. LB Sean Leee, Penn St (6-2⅛, 236, 4.76)
This may surprise people, particularly as we have our MLB with Weatherspoon, but personally, I don't think Sintim is a good fit for OLB in a Tampa 2, I think he needs to move to DE; Sean Lee is an ideal fit at OLB in a Tampa 2 and can slot in right away. Lee does have inury concerns, but remember injury concerns impacted the draft status of both Tuck and Greenway (among others), if he checks out medically he is a steal. Lee is good value. The bottom line is our LB corps is seriously upgraded. Sean Lee may be the most NFL ready and instinctive LB in the draft.

115. DT Linval Joseph, East Carolina (6-5, 328, 5.11)
A strong athletic DT to anchor our Dline. This may seem higher than many people expect, but Jospeh has similar tools and ability as Ndamukong Suh, he just comes from a smaller school and is very raw; he needs time to develop and adapt to the level of competition.

147. CB Javier Arenas, Alabama (5-8 ⅝, 197, 4.53)
Arenas is a dynamic return man and special teamer and an under rated CB

184. S Darrell Stuckey, Kansas (5-11¼, 205, 4.48)
Stuckey is a good all round safety prospect to upgrade our safety depth

221. DT Jay Ross, East Carolina (6-3, 313, 5.12)
Ross is a good strong, athletic DT who is an ideal fit in a 1 gap system, although can play 2 gap if needed. Ross has similar issues as Joseph, but is great value. Considering Cofield and Alford are off contract after the season, this is a great pick up.

This would give the Giants a roster something like:

Offense (25)
QB (3): Eli Manning, Jim Sorgi, Rhett Bhomar

WR (6): Steve Smith, Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham, Ramsees Barden, Domenik Hixon, Derek Hagan/ Sinorice Moss
TE (3): Jermaine Gresham, Kevin Boss, Travis Beckum

RB (4): Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw, Andre Brown, DJ Ware/ Gatrell Johnson
FB (1): Madison Hedgecock

OT (3): Kareem McKenzie, David Diehl, William Beatty
OG (3): Chris Snee, , Guy Whimper, Kevin Boothe/Adam Koets ,
OC (2): Shaun O'Hara, Rich Seubert

Defense (25)
LDE (2): Justin Tuck, Matthias Kiwanuka
RDE (2): Osi Umenyiora, Clint Sintim,
NT (2): Barry Cofield, Linval Jospeh
UT (2): Chris Canty, Jay Alford, Jay Ross

SLB (2): Sean Lee, Gerris Wilkinson
MLB (2): Sean Weatherspoon, Jonathan Goff/ Chase Blackburn
OLB (2): Michael Boley, Brian Kehl

CB (6): Terrell Thomas, Corey Webster, Aaron Ross, Javier Arenas, Bruce Johnson
S (4): Antrel Rolle, Kenny Phillips, Deon Grant, Michael Johnson, Darrel Stuckey

Special Teams (3)

If we don't take weatherspoon at 15 Atlanta will take him at their pick. He's to good of a player to last til 29th. I also think the bengals are going to do whatever it takes to make Gresham theirs.
