Pete's Final 2010 Giants mock Empty Re: Pete's Final 2010 Giants mock

I like how you beefed up the trenches and if that's how everything played out I could be happy with It but here's my deal with that. You basically swapped a probowl de on a good contract for jpp. I rather not trade osi and just draft iupati with the 15th pick. IMO jpp doesn't drastically improve our dline enough to get rid of osi. So that puts us in the same position as last year if not worse.

McCoy tested positive for being a weed head at the combine. So I removed him from my board but I do like him as a player.

We have a gaping hole in the middle of our defense with dt and MLB you really didn't address that as well as I think we should.

glad to hear your feedback

I just think that much like WR last year, the Giants do not see LB as quite an uregnt priority as people outside the organisation. There is a good chance that Wilkinson or Goff could get the job done, also don't overlook Angerer he is a good player.

I think the Giants want at least 3 quality DEs, yes we replace Osi with Pierre-Paul but the latter is younger and has alot of upside. Also the only reason Osi is traded comes back to money and attitude issues, not depth. Don't over look the DE from Washington. A big differense from last year is Pierre-Paul is durable, whilst Osi was coming back from injury. I can certainly see your point about the Dline if Osi is traded, but I just think that if Osi is actually traded, we get a DE early (rounds 1-3), anything else is a big backward step for our passrush, which is the bread and butter of our D.

I think we could still sign or trade players after draft day, eg MLB if needed

I think testing positive for pot is over rated, he won't slip that much, he will be under a very tight reign though (not unlike Bradshaw etc)

Here is my thoughts on the Giants strategy

1. The priority is to upgrade the trenches,

Dline
we need to do some re-tooling on the Dline at both DT and DE. We need a wide body at NT and also need to consider that Kiwanuka, Cofield and Alford are all off contract after the season; we need to groom depth.

Oline
ideally need a starting guard on Oline to step in right away replacing Seubert

Center is not a pressing need, O'Hara is playing at a high level and has a couple of good years left. I think we draft a player next year to groom behind/compete with O'Hara and next years draft class is much more talented with guys like Mike Pouncey, Stefan Wisniewski and Kristofer O'Dowd (among others)

I think long term that Diehl will move to RT replacing McKenzie.

MLB

I think it unlikely the Giants will draft a MLB early.

1. A much better Dline will really help MLB.

2. The MLB class this year is very thin, the Giants aren't going to reach to fill needs.

3. The Giants are going to let Wilkinson, Goff and Kehl have a legitimate shot at winning the MLB job. I think Wilkinson in particular is a good chance in my opinion. He knows the defense, played most MLB in college and has flashed ability. I think he needs that retooled Dline to keep blockers off him, but he does fit what Fewell wants to do.

4. The Giants traditionally don't put a high value on MLB.

5. Decent MLB options can be had this year in later rounds (such as Pat Angerer, AJ Edds, Darryl Sharpton, Joe Pawelek, Ryan D'Imperio

6. We can sign or trade for a player after the draft if need be (either for players or picks). For example guys like Derrick Johnson, AJ Hawk and D'Qwell Jackson could all be available.

7. Next years MLB draft group is much deeper with guys like Greg Jones, Quan Sturdivant, Kelvin Sheppard, Mark Herzlich and perhaps Travis Lewis etc

Also we need to remember we don't need a probowl MLB (although it will be nice), we need to upgrade over Pierce and Clark because they were a liability with their speed and athleticism.

I just don't think Reese will reach to fill MLB.

I've read that before and I'm just not understanding that reasoning. If LB is like WR was last year than we will draft a LB in the first round like we drafted Nicks. Also, the difference between that is we had top picks in previous years at WR with Smith being a 2nd, and Manningham a 3rd. We don't have that at ILB where I feel our need is.

I think the Giants want at least 3 quality DEs, yes we replace Osi with Pierre-Paul but the latter is younger and has alot of upside. I see the point of having 3 quality DE's but for the most part we can only get 2 on the field at the same time. Also, Sintim has had his hand on the ground before as a pass rusher. I think using Osi to get added pressure in the middle of our D will help out much more. Getting a DT like Suh or McCoy who would play every down versus a 3rd pass rusher just makes more sense to me. Then we can get that 3rd rusher in rounds 3 or 4.

I think testing positive for pot is over rated, he won't slip that much, he will be under a very tight reign though (not unlike Bradshaw etc)

It's the timing more than anything. The player knows he'll be tested at the combine but he still puff puff passes? So I'll pass too.

This is just my thinking, naturally everone has different thoughts. I am at least brave enough to suggest that MLB is not the dire urgent draft priority that many others believe.

my mock here has

1. a stud 3rd passrusher in Pierre-Paul

2. a stud DT in Linval Jospeh who can play 1 gap or 2 gap

3. a good value DE to groom for the future in Te’o-Nesheim

4. a good value DT to groom for the future in Ross

the bottom line is that other than Tuck and Canty every Dline position is up in the air after the season.
We need to re-tool and establish continuity.

don't get me wrong, I would love to get Suh, but I think it is unlikely

I think you have to consider Sintim either a DE or a SLB; I think the front office want to keep him at LB.

Yea I hope so but I wouldn't mind Sintim putting his hand on the ground every now and them. Hopefully Perry gets a lil creative.

Personally I want to see Sintim move to full time DE, but that is unlikely.

But if he is going to play LB then leave him at LB and let him develop.

I can see some merit in putting him in at DE, but he should focus on developing at SLB if that is what he primarily is.

I missed out on the Osi trade, fair enough, but I was dead on with the #15 and #56 selections.

The LB I like

if I hadn't projected the 3rd round pick in the trade, Chad Jones would have been in the mix, although I would likely have gone with Angerer.

It is very obvious that the Giants want a bigger/more physical team

Day 2 is much harder to project
