With the 46th overall pick the Giants select....
Linval Joseph DT East Carolina
A little high IMO but good pick here. Fills a very important need.

I was under the assumption that Joseph would get selected by a team more in need of a 3-4 nose.
However, if Joseph can keep his weight manageable he'll be a good rotation guy by keeping Cofield fresh through-out the season.
Oh yeah, and I hope he is a better defensive tackle than that other first rd pick we had named Joseph

This is not high in my opinion, I actually predicted this pick
He hasn't had any weight issues that I am aware of.
From everything I have heard he is a similar type of player to Ndamukong Suh, although less experienced.
Same kind of potential
Joseph would be more of a 3-4 DE than a 3-4 NT
Joseph will be the Marcus Stroud/Keith Hamilton style player we badly need up front.

From what I've read, he weighed over 370 in his early career and has stamina issues.Big_Pete wrote:

Not a surprise for a player of his size though.

Sorry Pete but I completely disagree with you on your assessment of Joseph. If he had the same kind of potential as Suh we wouldnt be picking him in the 2nd thats for sure. Suh is a rare talent. The best DT prospect to come out in a very long time.
I think its a little high based on his talents. He was being looked at as a NT for 3-4 defensive teams. We had to select him, like most NT's, higher than their talent indicates.
Matter of fact he has had weight issues and back problems.

lets wait and see what kind of player we get come training camp.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
The kid is raw and needs alot of technique etc, but with the right coaching he can be a stud.

Well now I don't want it to seem like I don't like his talent. I think he has a very good shot at becoming a good pro. I especially like his attitude and maturity. I think he's going to contribute vs the run right away which is what I like most about the pick. The cowboys and eagles have big maulers up front I finally feel like we have someone who won't get pushed around with Joseph. Dt and MLB are our biggest concerns at least I feel like dt was taken care of.
