John Henderson to be released
John Henderson is about to leave the only team he's ever played for.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Jacksonville will release Henderson today.
The Jaguars had been shopping Henderson in a trade, and Schefter reports that the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants had expressed some interest. But now he'll become an unrestricted free agent.
The Jaguars used their top two draft picks on defensive tackles, which made it clear that they wanted to get younger at the position. Henderson had two years and $11 million left on his contract.
The 31-year-old Henderson was drafted by the Jaguars in 2002 and has been a starter on their defensive line ever since. He has missed only four games in eight seasons, but now he'll have to find a new trainer to slap him in the face every Sunday.

Re: John Henderson to be released
Seeing that we showed interest in trading for him it makes sense we would look to bring him in after he is released. Henderson would give us a nice rotation at DT. Benard could then be let go or Cofield used to get a MLB thru trade.

Re: John Henderson to be released
I'm all for it.
Henderson would be a huge upgrade to anchor this line.
I like your idea then to look into trading Cofield for a lb.
Imagine Hendersen, Joseph, and Canty. 3 behemoths rotating in and out.
Plus we keep Alford as more of a pass rushing DT. Exactly what Bernard was suppose to be for us.

John Henderson to visit Chiefs, gets interest from Giants
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 26, 2010 1:16 PM ET
Free agency, phase three is underway. And there are some decent players available.
Former Jaguars defensive tackle John Henderson shouldn't have trouble getting a job, and has already received interest from the Giants, according to the New York Daily News.
Still, they aren't his most aggressive pursuers. Henderson will visit the Chiefs first, according to Newsday.
New York has a ton of defensive tackles on the roster after drafting Linval Joseph in the second round, but they may be trying to get rid of one. NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported Monday that the Giants almost dealt Barry Cofield to the Saints during the draft for a second-day pick.
Big Blue's defensive overhaul doesn't appear done yet.

Henderson visit to Kansas City doesn't happen
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 28, 2010 8:23 PM ET
Did John Henderson talk about his visit to Kansas City too much?
One day after confirming he was visiting the Chiefs, the visit didn't happen as planned. NFL Network's Jason La Canfora first reported that Henderson wasn't visiting Wednesday, and the Kansas City Star confirmed the news.
It's unclear if the Chiefs delayed the visit or just canceled it, but we do know that Atlanta won't go after the former Jaguar, according to G.M. Thomas Dimitroff.
Henderson does have a visit scheduled with the Giants.

Re: John Henderson to be released
I'm thinking/hoping it was because Henderson plans to join the Giants and didn't even want to waste time with the Chiefs. Perhaps he had second thoughts on his role in the 3-4 defense. Let's face it Big John, we are your best opportunity to bring the light back to your career. With the focus on all these pass rushers at DE and lining up next to Canty it doesn't get much better than that.
Playing for the Chiefs he'll see double teams very often. Playing here there's too much attention that needs to go elsewhere.

Re: John Henderson to be released
I think the Giants are a serious contender
It seems Cofield in out of favour and Joseph is a little raw.
We clearly want the big plugger at NT (which Cofield isn't)
Henderson would also be a great veteran mentor to Linval Joseph
Remember John Henderson has been playing on an awefull Jacksomville team and I would imagine he would be delighted to play on a defensive line as stacked as ours.
The Giants have an awesome stable of DEs and are only a couple seasons away from a superbowl victory. The Giants give him a legitimate shot at a SB ring, whereas KC and Tennessee are some ways off.
I think there is very strong mutual interest.

Let's also remeber that Hendersen was a first rd pick by Coughlin when he was coaching the Jags.
I know that was a quite a while ago, but still

Good point
also the Giants are the only team with a confirmed visit at this point.
He is reportedly coming in sometime this week.
