Giants sign Snee to six-year extension
NFL.com Wire Reports
The Giants reached agreement on Tuesday with guard Chris Snee on a six-year extension that ties him to the team through 2014, NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting.
The deal will make Snee -- who started every game for the Super Bowl champion Giants in 2007 -- one of the five highest paid guards in the game.
Snee, who has been a regular starter for the Giants since 2004, is the son-in-law of Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, who also signed an extension this offseason

This is great news, nice work Jerry Reese
It is interesting that snee is one of the 5 highest paid Guards now.
To give you an idea of the kind of deal this is, here are some notable contracts signed by Guards in the last few years
So I would estimate Snee's deal is somewhere around $42 million over 6 years with perhaps $15-20 million guaranteed
That shows you just how important Snee is to our offensive line

Very nice. I'm really glad that Snee got a deal done.
What does this mean as far as what the Giants have left in the bank? Does it have an effect on what Plax wants?

Here is my general guess (without too much research)
Tha giants had reportedly somewhere around$ 6 mil left in the bank; strahan's retirement makes it around $10 mil; Lorenzen being cut makes it around $11 million
so say $3.5 million for rookies. we have around $7.5 mill up our sleeves.
Snee's deal is likely to eat up at least around $5 mil - which doesn't leave too much in the bank for Plax and Osi.
We could do backload contracts and convert alot of their current salary into a guaranteed money, but that isn't how the giants tend to do Business.
It could be that some of our higher prices vets will be waived to make room? particularly those whose contracts exceed their play on the field
The most obvious is RW McQuarters: +$2.5 million; if we end up trading Shockey, thats another $2 million
The big question in my mind is just how much does plax want?

It may or may not affect how much Plax wants
What is certain is that is will affect was Plax is able to get though

I was pretty close
Chris Snee's deal is a 6 year 43.5 million deal with $17 million guaranteed (including a $12 million signing bonus) and includes $2 million in incentives.

One of the smartest moves we could do was lock up our line. The five are locked up now through 2012. Thats awesome, there aren't many better units in the NFL.

yep
McKenzie and O'Hara - signed through 2012
Diehl and Seubert - signed through 2013
Snee - signed through 2014
they are a good solid line, that gets the job done
we can upgrade, but it is not essential. The one player who could force his way into te starting lineup is Guy Whimper at Left Tackle.
Even if he doesn't it is all good with the guys we have; plus Whimper puts pressure on Diehl to perfom as well.
I don't know why, but I have the feeling Whimper could emerge as a very good left tackle; possibly breaking out from no-where like Jason Peters and Michael Roos. The interesting think is that no-one is giving him too much of a chance; but the front office/coaching staff are very good at identifying and developing talent.
