ALBANY, N.Y. – Giants safety Kenny Phillips and linebacker Keith Bulluck will play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, coach Tom Coughlin said after this afternoon’s practice.
Phillips will return to the game action for the first time since week two of last season. Bulluck is making his Giants debut, and is playing for the first time since ACL surgery seven months ago. There had been questions about Phillips’ return because the safety suffered a major knee injury and had been slow to recover.
“Just the fact he was out there working and he hadn’t suffered any setbacks,” Coughlin said about Phillips’ return. “The leg was stronger, he wanted to keep doing more and the doctors agreed.”

It is great news about Phillips
I am a little surprised to be honest, he only just started practicing. He will likely not be on the field too much, but it is a good sign that he is recovering well. Ofbviously the medical staff are very happy where he is at to expose him to actual game conditions.
Bulluck is no real surprise, I thought he could have played last week, but the medical staff are very carefull. Again he likely won't get a ton of work, but it is good to see him back in the mix.
I am looking forward to seeing how both guys go.
I am concerned with who will be taking the SLB reps with the second team with Blackburn out. Goff will likely be with the first team at MLB and other guys don't seem physical enough and Tracy is very raw. Maybe we see a bit more of packages with DEs at SLB? If not perhaps Tracy gets extra work?

Can't wait to see these guys get a few snaps in. The injuries seem to be hitting us hard this year early, so getting back a few players is always a good thing.

Actually I think our inury situation is very good.
Other than Jones and Hixon, we have no serious injuries, sure we have guys out for a while and guys coming back from injury, but that is part and parcel of the NFL these days and we are travelling pretty well. Most of our guys are right to go and the others should be back over the next few weeks.
Great stuff as the season approaches.
Having a few guys out actually gives opportunity to our other guys and lets us see what these guys have. The Giants do have great depth. It will be invaluable when it comes time for roster cuts.
