trade RW McQuarters?
from kffl.com
Should we offer McQuarters in a trade (possibly for a 6th or 7th round pick)
McQuarters is a solid veteran CB, but is burried on our depth chart; he could give the browns a solid veteran CB
Browns | Team has not ruled out signing cornerback

James Walker, of ESPN.com, reports the Cleveland Browns have not ruled out signing another cornerback via trade or free agency but remain unlikely to trade for Philadelphia Eagles CB Lito Sheppard or sign free-agent CB Ty Law (Chiefs).

Re: trade RW McQuarters?
I seriously doubt anybody would give us a draft pick for Mcquarters. It would be nice if a team did though.
McQ is a good role player to the younger players and knows the system well. No other team will pay him more than what the Giants are paying him now.

Re: trade RW McQuarters?
I am not so sure;
he is reasonably priced for a vet CB
Have a look at Clevelands secondary (other than Jones and Pool)
24 Wright, Eric CB 5'10" 193 7/24/1985 2 Nevada-Las Vegas
37 Davis, A.J. CB 5'10" 192 5/29/1983 1 North Carolina State
Perry, Jereme DB 6'0" 202 12/15/1981 3 Eastern Michigan
41 James, Mil'von DB 5'10" 196 9/17/1985 0 Nevada-Las Vegas
16 Jenkins, Damon DB 5'10" 190 3/11/1985 0 Fresno State
Cousin, Terry DB 5'9" 188 4/11/1975 12 South Carolina
37 Sandy, Justin DB 6'0" 210 2/22/1982 2 Northern Iowa
20 Adams, Mike DB 5'11" 196 3/24/1981 5 Delaware
5 Lawson, Gerard DB 5'10" 195 1/12/1985 0 Oregon State
23 Baxter, Gary DB 6'2" 210 11/24/1978 8 Baylor
27 Sorensen, Nick DB 6'3" 205 7/31/1978 8 Virginia Tech
22 McDonald, Brandon
They have decent youngsters in Wright and Davis; Baxter is coming back from injury but after that it gets real thin
McQuarters would at worst be 4th on their depth chart and will give the secondary a some good vertean leadership. Coming from Coughlin's system, he will fit nicely in Crennel's system and he is coming off a SB and that winning attitude can help what has been a beleaguered secondary. His versatility and return skills are an added bonus.
nope he won't get more elsewhere, but he is still reasonably priced for a veteran CB.
For a 6th or 7th he is reasonable; although a player would be better.

Why trade for Mc25 and give a draft pick when they can have Law for nothing. Nobody is trading for McQuarters.

I think Ty Law wants alot of money - probably alot more than he is worth.
probably true, it was idle specualation for a slow day; oh well

Pete, every year you speculate about trading or cutting McQuarters. Does he owe you money or something?

Nope but a $2.5 mill salary is a little excessive in my opinon for a backup / kick returner. particulary when the other 3 CBs ahead of hom earn under $1.5 mill each; I would rather invest that money in other players and give another young guy a shot, so sue me

I understand Pete, it makes sense. Its just funny how you seem to have a thread similar to this every year.Big_Pete wrote:

This will be the last year
I highly doubt the resign McQuarters unless he is real cheap.
It is not that he is a bad bloke; just more expensive than he should be

Re: trade RW McQuarters?
McQ is only making 1.7 this season because he failed to reach some incentive bonuses last season that would have had him making 2.5. So it's not quite as bad as it looks.

The doesn't agree information I have found with my research
from http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_contract.aspx?sport=NFL&id=2462
3/13/2006: Signed a three-year, $6 million contract. The deal included a $2 million signing bonus. 2008: $2.525 million, 2009: Free Agent
That is his base salary nothing to do with any incentives.
This has been verified by multiple other reliable sources I have found online
I believe you are refering to incentives in the 2007 contract with is a separate issue; The Giants may have had a slightly increased salary cap in 2008 due to un-realised 2007 incentives that were included against the 2007 salary cap.
I suspect you information is incorrect; where are your sources?

I was a little off.... it's actually less than 1.7
R.W. is scheduled to make 1.475 for 2008

McQ salary click here
It may not be 100% accurate but I also read somewhere else just after the superbowl that his salary took a big hit for the 2008 season because of some incentives that he failed to reach in 2007.

Re: trade RW McQuarters?
^^ I read that as well.
Regarding Ty Law, he is a 34 year old player who is at the end of his career. I doubt he is asking too much.

That is very interesting and a reasonably reliable source, thanks for posting

Re: trade RW McQuarters?
I wouldn't mind seeing McQ play one more year actually. I think this is the last year of his contract anyways.
As long as we don't have to play him on any more one on one match-ups, we'll be okay.
He's got decent hands as a punt returner even though he lacks the elusiveness.
