I am not surprised the Giants are interested.
I could see the Giants offering players or possibly late round picks.
A key factor will be whether Leinart is willing to redo his contract.
2010: $2.485 million
2011: $7.36 million (+ $5.5 million roster bonus due on first day of league year)
2012: Free Agent
Of the three the Giants are probably the best option for Leinart, The Raiders are after a backup and the Bills need a lot of help. The Giants have a genuine shot at the playoffs and have previously resurrected the career of a former top pick whilst they back up Eli.

Re: Giants interested in Leinart
I doubt the Giants have any real interest mainly because of the money Leinert would want.
They're probably just testing the waters like they should.
Leinert would have zero chance of starting with the giants so I doubt he's really interested in the giants either.

I agree 100%. There is a lot being said about the guy. I just remember when he won the Heisman he should have entered the draft but he stayed another year. I thought he was scared of the NFL and wasn't surprised when he didn't turn out well.

we will see with Leinart. He would be a back up with the raiders and who knows with the Bills, they are aweful.
What it does show is that we are seriously looking at bringing someone in back up Eli.

no real surprise
If they did look into Leinart, it means they are seriously looking to bring in a back up.
I wonder what other QBs they have looked at?
I wonder if they have enquired about Brady Quinn (Broncos) or perhaps Chris Simms (Titans) or Sage Rosenfels (Vikings)?
Kellen Clemens would be a great pick up, but he took a pay cut to be the #3 QB. But perhaps he could be available for the right price.
As for the Giants, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News checked with his sources, all of whom indicated conversations took place on Leinart, but didn't progress very far

the Cardinal's locker room seem to be discussing a Giants trade
Cardinals locker room buzzes about possible Leinart trade to Giants

We mentioned in our most recent post that, of the three teams linked to Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart, only the Giants have not publicly denied the report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.
And there could be a good reason for the silence.
We're told that the Cardinals locker room currently is buzzing with a rumor that Leinart will be traded to the Giants. It's unclear whether there's any truth to the rumor, but it is true that the Cardinals' locker room is buzzing with a rumor that Leinart will be traded to the Giants.
This is one of those instances where we rely on the audience to understand what we are and aren't reporting. When sharing rumors in this space, we label them as rumors. For now, this is only a rumor. But it's a rampant rumor in the Cardinals' locker room. Whether it comes to fruition remains to be seen.
That said, we'd be shocked if the Giants do the deal without getting Leinart to reduce his 2010 and/or 2011 salary. We'd also be surprised to see Leinart agree to reduce his salary when he can, if he so chooses, dig in his heels and try to force a release, so that he could then pick his next team.
Then again, if he truly wants to be a starter, his next team could be in the UFL.
