Giants bring back Deon Grant
Grant is a nice asset to have as a veteran safety who knows the system.
http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2011/08/giants_re-sign_safety_deon_gra.htmlThe team is expected to re-sign veteran safety Deon Grant, according to someone informed of the impending transaction. The person requested anonymity because the move isn't yet official.

This is a great signing imo. Been waiting all summer for it.
Can you just imagine the criticism the giants would have received if either Rolle or Phillips got injured during the season.
Sash needs some time to develop before thrown to the wolves and Grant is a proven player.

This is a great move
I do like Sash a lot, but he needs time to develop (much like we do with all of our rookies); I also think Grant helps Phillips and Rolle as well.
I think the move that clinched Grant's return though was Ross's spotty play. The original plan was to use Terrell Thomas in the same way we used Deon Grant last year, but with Ross being patchy so far in camp and Prince getting hurt, it meant our CB depth was not as deep as first envisioned.
I was concerned with our safety depth (and our CB depth to be honest), this move locks up our safety depth nicely.
This will also let us use Terrell Thomas a little more.

I agree Todd.
This doesnt have anything to do with Ross. Lets not try to use him as the scapegoat here. He plays a different position. The plan to have Thomas play as the 3rd safety was when Prince was still healthy. That changed after that. Sash was the guy because of the strong camp he was having. In the Carolina game Sash showed he needs time to develop. If Philips or Rolle got hurt Sash would be the one starting. Not Ross or Thomas. They brought Grant back based on that.

I think it has to do with our overall DB depth
I am not using Ross as a scapegoat, but he has been a little spotty, but combined with Prince's injury and learning curve and Bruce Johnson on IR, means our CB depth is nowhere near as solid as it needs to be (remember we have had injury issues with our CBs)
This means that Thomas can't be used as much in the role Grant played last year.
Bottom line, we needed another starting calibre DB; Grant was the best option available (by some margin).

Re: Giants bring back Deon Grant
It's simple really.
Before:
Rolle/Phillips gets hurt a 6th round rookie starts.
Now:
Rolle/Phillips gets hurt a seasoned vet starts.

Grant is the Giant's Darren Sharper. Brings great veteran leadership, past his prime though to say the least.
