Jon Goff tore his ACL in practice and is done for the year.

Reportedly we are going to bring in Kawika Mitchell to fill Goff's roster spot.

Any thoughts that one of the rookies (likely Jones or Herzlich) could get more playing time? Also looks like Paysinger could get the nod in our 5 db sets.

A bad break for Goff (I was expecting him to improve this year) but it is also a real opportunity for our young lbs to step up.

Mitchell is good veteran insurance and knows Fewell's schemes.

I guess Keith Bulluck could also be an option if we don't go with Kawika Mitchell.

Although I like goff and this is tough for him we don't lose much. Run stuffing backers are a dime a dozen. The major thing is losing a guy that knows the system but mitchell is a quick fix for that problem. I'd like to see Greg jones or herz get a crack at it but we'll see what happens.

I believe tatupu is still a free agent maybe he'll get a look as well.

Bringing in 2 linebackers is a must, Bullock and Tatupu are the guys we should target.

Signing Mitchell may actually be an upgrade to the position. Although, it hurts to say that because Goff was probably set off to have a decent year.
I'm kind of anxious to see what we have in Greg Jones as well.

I think it is interesting that we have t gone out immediately and brought in a vet lb. The skins game is only days away and that isn't much time to bring in someone who will qb the defense.

We could also be looking at trade options.

Another option is to activate Adrian Tracy off the practice squad and use Greg Jones and Mark Herzlich inside.



Either way it looks to me like Jones will get the start this week on early downs, probably with Paysinger on passing downs. Herzlich will be I. The mix as well. Don't be surprised if all three get a fair amount of playing time in rotation. Fewell will mix it up a bit.

From what I understand.
The Giants are likely waiting until after week one has fully started. At that time they can sign any veteran player without a guaranteed contract.
Someone correct me if I am wrong here.

Blackburn would make some sense since he knows the system well and could contribute on specials if needed.

That would make sense, it will be interesting to see who we bring in.

I prefer Tatupu, he brings quality experience to our young LB squad.

I hope Greg Jones goes out there and performs, its a lot to ask a rookie to step in and play MLB.

I expect Antrelle Rolle to take a bigger role on defense, he has to be the leader with Osi, Tuck, and Goff out.
