Nice moves Jerry Reese
we have resigned Jacobs, signed Michael Boley and have Chris Canty, Rocky Bernard in over the weekend and Perhaps DE Antonio Smith in the near future.
It is likely we will have one signed soon. I think it is unlikely we would sign two (unless Bernard or Smith are cheaper than I would expect), but the Giants apparantly were seriously after Haynesworth so perhaps two DL could be had for the same price.
It means our meajor remaining need is at WR; We still need to add safety, corner and oline depth but that will likely happen through the draft.
The problem is that the free agent WRs are either 1 too expesive, 2 too old or 3 not significantly better than the good core of younsgeters we have (or a combination of all three)
That means we have either the draft or a trade to upgrade WR
Trading for Boldin would be nice, but I think other teams will be willing to pay more than we would be (both in picks and contract); top of the list Philly.
There is one intriguing possibility Braylon Edwards; Mangini is clearing house and is willing to trade players for picks (eg Kellen Winslow); plus Braylon Edwards is in the last year of his rookie deal, I think he could seriously be available.
If not we will get a WR or perhaps 2 in the draft (perhaps we do anyway).
defensively our LBs are solid with
SLB: Kehl, Clark, DeOssie
MLB: Pierce, Blackburn, Goff
WLB: Boley, Wilkinson
a LB at some point in the draft is all we need
or DL rotation is shaping up very well
DE: Umenyiora, Tuck, Kiwanuka,Henderson/Tollefsen
DT: Robbins, Canty/Bernard/Smith, Cofield, Alford

Re: Nice moves Jerry Reese
so without more aditions in the draft we could
s get something like
- a WR early, perhaps another in early to mid rounds
- a LB
- S or two
- TE depth
- OC depth to develop for the future
- OT depth to develop for future
- CB depth, possibly two
thats the 10 draft picks we have assuming we go with all options
we already have 9 picks, plus will almost certainly get some kind of compensationary draft picks for Wilson, Mitchell and Torbor

Re: Nice moves Jerry Reese
I like this signing. 5 years at 25 mil, 10 mil guaranteed. This addition just made our drafting process that much easier imo.
The Giants needed a linebacker that could drop into coverage and they just found one in Michael Boley. He has a few character issues so hopefully he can get them things sorted out if he hasn't already.
Way to go JR

Re: Nice moves Jerry Reese
I think we will see contract extensions for Manning, Cofield and maybe Hixon in the next few weeks
Reese has made our defensive front seven a priority, which means our defense should be nasty
we have to thank Kevin Abrams for the awesome contracts
I think the character issues will be reflected in the contract (much like Plaxs)
btw Boley's will be very reasonable once it all shakes down

Re: Nice moves Jerry Reese
I am still in shock that the Giants made a serious run to sign Haynesworth even when told the inital $30million+ guranteed from Haynesworth's agent as a starting point for discussion
that hasn't been our modus opperandi in recent years
it just proves that Reese does consider all options
