Though Giants special teams coach Tom Quinn told reporters Wednesday kick returner Darius Reynaud "regressed" in Monday's game against the Cowboys, he indicated the team would be sticking with Reynaud moving forward.
However, there's a fly in the ointment for Reynaud. And that fly's name is Will Blackmon.
The former Packers defensive back and returner worked out for the Giants Wednesday, according to the NFL's daily transaction wire. The team didn't announce a deal Wednesday afternoon and there are no indications they will announce anything in the evening, so it would appear Blackmon left without a contract, right?
Wrong. Blackmon's agent wrote via e-mail minutes ago he would comment on the situation Thursday. So it sounds as if his client is still in play with the team for now.
Blackmon, a fourth-round pick from Boston College in 2006, had 44 punt returns for 504 yards (11.5 average) and 3 touchdowns combined in the 2007 and '08 seasons with the Packers. But in the fourth game of last season, he tore a knee ligament and was lost for the year.
Blackmon's knee gave him issues in the preseason this year and he was placed on injured reserve when Green Bay made final cuts. The team then reached an injury settlement with Blackmon, thus setting him free.
Blackmon, whose workout with the Giants coincided with his 26th birthday, wrote on his Twitter account Sunday last weekend might have been his last one watching football, an indication he believed he was about to be signed by a team. Three days earlier, he put out a now-suspicious "Date set" tweet, which might have been in reference to his visit to East Rutherford.
If Blackmon signs with the Giants, he'll get a shot to face his former team on Dec. 26 in Lambeau Field - the first meeting of the Giants and Packers since the NFC Championship game in January 2008.
Reynaud, acquired from the Vikings in the Sage Rosenfels deal, is averaging only 5.9 yards per punt return and 18.4 yards per kick return. He's had issues adjusting to the Giants' return schemes, which ask the returner to get upfield quickly. Instead, Reynaud has been caught stopping his feet while trying to find an open hole.

This is a player I wanted to see the Giants draft a few years back.
Seen him make some big plays in college.
A decent returner and corneback who used to play wide receiver also in college.
Sign him Reese.
