Giants give DE Canty six-year, $42 million deal
Posted: Adam Schefter
The New York Giants continue making bold moves to shore up their defense.
One day after signing DT Rocky Bernard and LB Michael Boley, the Giants signed free-agent DE Chris Canty to a six-year, $42 million contract that includes $17.25 million in guaranteed money. Now Dallas’ loss is New York’s gain.
Dallas could not afford to keep Canty, and the Green Bay Packers were trying to arrange for him to visit the team. But Sunday afternoon, Canty took the Giants’ offer.
The Giants have gotten defensive. Again.

Still can not believe what just happened in the last 24 hrs
I haven't even thought about the dollar amount yet but we are going to have a sick defense next year and I can't wait until next months draft.

cap wise we should be in reasonable shape; I will have the rough figures soon from insidefootball
they were saying we had around $25 million before Boley Bernard and Canty so if you take $5 million for rookies and $4 for a reserve/emergency fund; that leaves $16 million. A fair chunk of that will have been used; alothough Kevin Abrams does a great job with contracts.
We wanted Haynesworth, but ended up getting Canty and Bernard for similar money to what we were thinking of paying haynesworth (alot less than the redskins)
I suspect Robbins and more importantly Cofield's knee is a bit more of a concern than some of us thought
Mike Wauffle and Bill Sheridan are going to have a ball this offseason
