Re: My Giants mock
I wouldnt mind trading up for Pouncey. He's a very good center with the ability to play LG until we are ready to replace O'Hara at Center. I'm actually in favor of trading up for the guy we want in this draft. I don't think we have many needs at all. We can use a player like Osi at one point than trade some picks to move up at another. I like that idea.

Re: My Giants mock
I like the idea of trading up into the late 2nd as well
there are a few good options available including Pouncey, Price and Dunlap who will likely be on the table.
What i really like about the mock is the balance, 3 offensive players, 3 defensive players and a special teamer

Re: My Giants mock
Looking at the huge contract that Peppers got, plus the over priced deals that Kampfman and Vanden Bosch got, plus the fact that the Raiders traded a 3rd round pick for Kamerion Wimbley, I think Osi;s value around #33 is quite reasonable. Additionally he would be a good fit with Spags at the Rams and they are sorely in need of a quality pass rusher.

Re: My Giants mock
Interestingly Scott Wright's latest mock draft had Brian Price and Jermaine Gresham available at #33 and Jahvid Best available at #46
How would this look as a mock draft?

33. TE Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma (6-5, 261, 4.72, 20)
46. RB Jahvid Best, California (5-10, 199, 4.35, 18)
76. S Major Wright, Florida (6-0, 206, 4.48, 16)
112. LB Rennie Curran, Georgia (5-11, 235, 4.72, 25)
143. DT Linval Joseph, East Carolina (6-5, 328, 5.11, 39)
174. DE Lindsay Witten (6-5, 250, 4.71, 23)
205. P Zoltan Mesko, Michigan (6-5, 240, DNP, 16)
I must admit, I prefer the idea of trading up for a top target, but there is plenty of depth available

Re: My Giants mock
Your second mock.
The Good:
I like Best as an option there in the second round.
The Bad:
I can't see sending away a pro bowl DE to gain a TE. (After reading your other post though, I see where your coming from and it does make some sense if he's BPA)
Still, I think the Giants may already be content with their pass catchers in Boss and Beckum, and their blockers in Pascoe and Boss
I'll stick with what I said before. "Getting rid of Osi is one injury away from Tollefson becoming a starter." Not so sure I like that idea.
Addressing DT/DE at rounds 5,6 is waiting too long if you just lost Osi imo.
Too early on a center also.
Just my opinion, but I've seen much better mocks from you Pete.

Re: My Giants mock
you have to remember there is a big difference betweem value in the draft and talent.
Witten and Joseph for example have legitimate day 1 talent, but will be great value due to the exceptional depth this year at those positions.
I don't see DE being that bad. Tollefsen is servicable, Witten has ability plus we can move Canty, Alford to LDE with Tuck at RDE or use Sintim at RDE. The cupboard is hardly bare.
Also if Osi is traded, it is entirely about his attitude/fit with the team not depth.
Gresham if he is there is too good to pass up, he has better talent and ability than Shockey without the attitude, it wasn't that long ago he was considered a legit top 10 pick. I think the current plan is to upgrade TE next year ot two. No disrespect to Boss, but he simply is not in the same class as Shockey (or the other TEs in NFC east), Gresham is though; Boss is a great #2 TE imho.
I think Reese is happy with our WRs, but I don't think he is content with either our RBs or TEs - we haven't had the level of production we want (or used to have) from either.
The key to remeber is not to lock a player or position into a particular round. The draft is very fluid, we will draft the best player off our value board, so if a better player slides at a unexpected position that we may like to upgrade despite it not being obvious, then that could happen.
The other thing to remember is that other than MLB we have no real urgent needs, so all other picks are upgrading for the future, which puts alot more options on the table.
But these are just my general thoughts, it is great to hear other people's opinions
AftER all I throw various combinations and ideas out there to see if it starts any kind of interesting discussion. It is also good to think outside the box at times.
