Trade idea II - your thoughts
Just throwing an idea up in an otherwise slow week....
(it should at least get someopinions)
Albert Haynesworth for Mario Manningham
The Giants want to get more physical up front and the Redskins have been willing to trade within the division.
Sure there are issues with Haynesworth, but they are over blown to some extent and we know what he can dominate in a 4-3. Haynesworth isn't happy with his role in a 3-4. Haynesworth nows he would have to work hard here and that nothing would be given to him. I think the culture could be exactly what he needs. Remember th Giants did were one of the teams seriously chasing Haynesworth last year.
There is a lot to like with Manningham and he does have upside. However he also doesn't get the separation you would expect considering his speed.
I also think Manningham isn't going to get a heap of opportunities here and I would like to see what our young guys can do, they certainly have the potential for a bigger special teams impact.

as for the contract for Haynesworth, it would be
2010: $3.6 million ,
2011: $5.4 million,
2012: $6.7 million (+ $500,000 workout bonus),
2013: $8.5 million (+ $20 million "discretionary signing bonus" + $500,000 roster bonus due 8/31 = Poison Pill Year),
2014: $10.3 million (+ $500,000 roster bonus due 8/31),
2015: $11.5 million (+ $500,000 roster bonus due 8/31),
2016: Free Agent
None of this is guaranteed, and we would cut Haynesworth before the huge bonus due in 2013.
So in effect we would get Haynesworth for a 3 year $16.2 m deal (plus incentives (perhaps around up to $6m)

Quite honestly. I'm done with these glamor players just trying to make a big buck.
Don't get me wrong. I would love to have a player such as Haynesworth. He is a great player imo.
But really, if you draft well and coach up some of these players you can do just as well without spending the big dollars.
I like what the Ravens have with Haloti Ngata and Terrence Cody. Young players, not a lot of money tied up yet, and these two will be a powerhouse for the Ravens this season. Just watch and see.
