SLB options
the one glaring area of need on the Giants LB group is SLB
Assuming the Giants consider a free agent SLB, who do you think are good options?
maybe
James Anderson, Panthers
Rocky McIntosh, Redskins
Is Manny Lawson a reasonable option?
I see Thomas Howard as more of a WLB to be honest
any others?

Re: SLB options
I liked Manny Lawson coming out of college. Although he reminds me of a hybrid tweener. Vin would like him lol.
Mcintosh or Howard would be my guys.
Put the best 3 linebackers out there and lets see where it goes is generally my philosophy.
starters= Rocky Mcintosh - Jon Goff - M. Boley
backups= Phil Dillard - Greg Jones - Jacquian Williams
Dillard, Sintim, and Chase are fighting for a spot.

Re: SLB options
I don't think the front office are going to give up on Sintim yet.
Of late my thinking is that Goff is a solid starter, with Jones and Dillard we are ok inside.
I do think we need a starter at SLB (not necessarily expensive) - McIntosh or Anderson
ideally we should bring in a good WLB, preferably someone who can put pressure of Boley (who hasn't been the playmaker we expected).
The wildcard is if we bring in a MLB possibly like Ruud or Pos. In which case Goff would likely slide over to SLB.

Your probably right unless Clint has a real bad camp and shows nothing over the rookies. And that's a real possibility.Big_Pete wrote:I don't think the front office are going to give up on Sintim yet.

I think Sintim is basically an OLB in a 3-4 in a system like the cowboys, where the OLBs are very much like DEs.
Personally I think we should trade him, unfortunately I don't see it happening.

Re: SLB options
Thomas Howard can play either OLB position. I wouldn't mind him if he's a FA because of his versatility. I like a veteran signing like Scott Shanle or Ben Leber to back up Sintim. Leroy Hill is a guy who can compete with Boley.
I really like Kevin Burnett. He can play any LB position and all 3 downs. So he doesn't only fit our plans now but also for the future. He's perhaps one of the best coverage backers in the league.
Ruud would be an awesome addition in the middle. If Poz is a FA he would fit perfectly as well.
We can definitely upgrade our LBing group this year.

good options
I think guys like Howard and Anderson could be very reasonably priced.
Burnett is an interesting option, but I think he will be in demand because he can fit so many systems

Re: SLB options
Is it worth mentioning that Boley played SLB at Atlanta?
If we signed a genuine WLB like Thomas Howard or Thomas Davis, maybe we could flip Boley to SLB? Howard is faster and more athletic than Boley.
That would certainly be a fast LB group, and a good fit in a Tampa 2 style of defence. We also have the option of rotating Sintim in at SLB on running downs.
