Thoughts on the Plax situation?
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3606150
Do you think that Plax deserves to be punished a game for his actions?
I do. It may not pay off right away but it will for months and years to come with all our players. Just goes to show that talent alone won't let anyone slide by the rules.

Re: Thoughts on the Plax situation?
I think it is a good call and one that needed to be made.
The team has rules, and everyone must stick by them.
Unlike other teams, we don't make exceptions for star players.
Burress is an adult, he know the team rules and if he doesn't meet them, then understandably there are consequences.
It isn't like this is Burress's first offense....

Here is the full transcript of the conference call with Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for WR Plaxico Burress, who was suspended today for two weeks by the Giants for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
“Here’s what I feel comfortable saying because it’s a private matter and it has to do with Plax and his family. He had some responsibility he needed to take care of as it relates to his family. The most unfortunate thing here is there was a lack of communication. In talking to Plax, he feels bad about that obviously. He did come and meet with Jerry Reese today and try to work it out. I have been in touch with the team and they made their decision today. We have to respect their decision, but we don’t agree with it. As a result, we have spoken to the NFLPA, Richard Bertlestein, the Executive Director, and we have asked if we can request an immediate hearing to get Plaxico reinstated, although we do acknowledge that there was an infraction here and a violation of team rules, it’s not something we think is tantamount to Plaxico being suspended for these two weeks.”
RE: If suspension was due to lack of communication or the actual rule infraction
A: I don’t want to speak for the Giants out of respect for them. If they choo0se to discuss it, that’s up to them. I pretty much want to communicate on behalf of Plax that he’s apologetic for this, he’s remorseful and he’s certainly contrite and I think he does have a good case here to get back. This is a player that has gone through a lot for this football team over the years; it’s been well documented what he endured to play last year with the injuries. It means too much to him to be there with his teammates. We’re acknowledging that there should be some repercussion, but not to the extent where he’s denied his right to perform his livelihood. I do believer there are things that take place in the NFL that you could say are worse that have not led to suspension, and we’re hoping an arbitrator will agree with our position and reinstate him certainly in time for him to play and practice for the Seahawks game.
Q: Why not him just pick up a phone and inform the team why he wouldn’t be there?
A: Again, I’ve acknowledged there is recognition of the miscommunication, the disappointment in this scenario and I’m certainly doing my best to work with Plaxico to not look back and to try to get this thing turned around.
Q: What was Plaxico’s reaction?
I think he was very surprised and very disappointed. I spoke with him immediately after his meeting. He was really surprised, very disappointed and certainly he did not anticipate his conduct would lead to him being suspended. With that being said, I have eight clients on the Giants, I have a long history of dealing with this team and I’m still hopeful that we can get this thing worked out and get him back on the practice field.
Q: Did you get a hearing or know when that time frame is?
A: That’s something they’re working on. They’re going to get back to me in terms of the time frame. That’s out of my hands.
Q: RE: characterizing the family issue that confronted Plax on Monday.
A: Plaxico had a responsibility relating to his family that he took care of and personally handled and I’m going to leave it at that.
Q: Was it an emergency?
A: He felt it was an emergency, so I would rather not characterize it.
Q: Was it enough of an emergency to preclude him from not picking up the phone and calling someone?
A: I’ve already addressed that. We’re not going to look back. He did speak to Charles Way on Monday evening. I was in touch with the organization throughout Monday and yesterday many times, and we’re hopeful we can get this worked out.
Q: Is the situation with Plaxico now rectified to where it’s no longer an issue moving forward?
A: Yes.
Q: On Monday did you reach out to Plaxico to find out where he was? Was there any concern on your part if you were not able to reach him?
A: That’s really between me and Plax. I’m not going to get into that.
And with that Rosenhaus ended the call.
So what can be concluded here?
1. Burress had enough of an emergency to let Rosenhaus know what was going on Monday, but for some reason, neither he nor Rosenhaus were able to get hold of Tom Coughlin or Jerry Reese.
2. Rosenhaus is acknowledging there was a miscommunication, which apparently appears to be at the heart of the Giants’ ire.
3. Burress is going to appeal the suspension, though it seems like he doesn’t have a case as if anyone were to not show up for work for two days and not contact their employer, short of death or incarceration, that would be the equivalent of abandonment and would warrant a penalty far more severe than a two week without pay suspension at most places.
4. Yes, Burress has given his all to the team in the past, most notably last year. But he ALSO has a history of marching to his own beat as this is not the first time (nor do I suspect this will be the last time) he has failed to communicate with the Giants or has made a move that hurt him in the pocketbook.
One other thing for your consideration. Fellow receiver Steve Smith let loose a very revealing piece of information about the situation. When it was mentioned to Smith if he noticed that Plaxico wasn’t in the meeting room on Monday and if he was concerned by it, Smith said, “Plax is Plax. He does what he wants. We don’t see him a lot of the times. So I thought it was a normal day. I didn’t know if he wasn’t going to come or not. I didn’t know he was getting in trouble for that. We never really know when it comes to Plax.”
Hmmm.
Sorry Plax. Based on the facts that have come out, you’re wrong on this. I’m guessing that if you had enough time to call your agent to let him know what was happening, a simple voice mail would have been more than sufficient to avoid this mess.

Re: Thoughts on the Plax situation?
Well... Plax's fine was cut in half, he's still likely to get his roster bonus money, and two weeks off to relax. Unfortunately, I think the Giants lost on this one.
Must be nice on Plaxicos part to be able to just throw over a hundred grand out the window. That's alot more than most working peoples yearly salary.

Re: Thoughts on the Plax situation?
actually i dont think the front ofice lost this one at all
they are likely understanding there are extenuating circumstances in this case; the giants foster a family atmosphere after all
I think Burress now knows the front office is serious and will not tolerate his antics in the future.
